Gloomy day - but the sun is shining

I'm sure everyone will have something to say about today... 2 years on, everybody remembers where they were. I'm not the most awake of human beings in the morning, so it only dawned on me what date it was when I arrived in Waterloo Station. The place was unusually deserted.

I started thinking: "Waterloo is one of the busiest stations in London, perhaps in the whole of England. It is, perhaps, a prime site for a terrorist attack." I walked into WHSmith, hoping to find a novel (no luck) and thoughts raced through my head of explosions, being taken to a hospital, being thrown into terror and carnage out of my will. I then went into Boots and bought Nirolex Chesty Cough Linctus.

I can't imagine the horror of the people in those airplanes or in the towers. I can't imagine the horror of the civilians in Iraq and Afeghanistan, bombed and massacred (13.000 civilians and military killed since 11th of September in those countries.)

My thoughts are with the victims' families and with the terrorists' families. It is worse for a mother to know her child is a monster than to know her child has been murdered.

Evening in Tower Records

The whole thing about Tower Records closing down must have been a fantasy/lie in somebody's head. The store was unchanged, with its mixture of Goth cashiers from Germany, Bauhaus bargain sales and lack of costumers still rulling the day. Nice to see that the listening stations have been moved, and new headphones introduced.

It didn't look like they were going out of business.

Karla, Kevin and I looked around for a bit until she settled for Grant Lee Phillips album, and I got The Raveonettes E.P. for myself.

We went for coffee nearby, then headed home for a fish & chips dinner. Silke wasn't home so we watched TV in her room: Dante's Peak Have you seen this movie? Pfff... what a disaster. In all senses. Makes me wonder if there is such a thing as a good PG rated movie.

This morning, in the Tube, I was trying to grasp some meaning from the movie. It's plot was completely formulaic, sticking to the "Best Seller" type of story (Protagonist encounters obstacles in his quest, which begin to grow in magnitute until the climax. A few antagonists are throw his way - mother nature, the greedy contract developer, his boss - but he manages to handle them with his charm/intellect/courage.) It kinda makes me laugh that the place was called Dante's Peak. Like, uuhhh, Dante's Inferno? The two awful children actors in the movie seriously deserve a stay in purgatory... not to mention the people who produced it. There was even a mut thrown into the plot. I told Kevin "i bet there will be a scene where everyone thinks the dog dies, but then it comes back. You can hear the audiece going awwwww." And did anyone shed a tear for the cranky grandmother who had her legs melted by the sulfuric lake? Nope.
