Lanterna Chinesa

The name of that tree in my previous post is ABUTILON STRIATUM, also known as the Red Vein Indian Mallow (according to Google). More info over at Wikipedia.

My Local Swimming Pool

I was trying to find out about The Porchester's closing hours when I ran into a photo of my swimming pool. Isn't she pretty?

The lane on the far-right is the "Fast and Furious" lane. There's never more than 4 people using it. After New Year's Day, it jumped to 6-7 because of all those stupid NYE resolutions. But I'm sure it won't last. On a lucky day, you can find the pool as empty as in this picture. The middle lane, "Getting Faster", usually accommodates 6-8 people.

In the mornings, the sky is almost dark and the air around the pool is quite cold. But, as I swim through my laps, and in particular when I'm doing my backstrokes, I can see the light growing through the skylight into a deep blue (or gray, if it's a dull day.) On the wall facing the pool you can see a clock. I use that clock to keep track of my time there -- whether I should rush or take my time. I'm usually done with my laps by 8.30 AM.
