Best new show 2005?

I just watched my first episode of the tv show Lost. So let me get this straight: a couple of producers have gone and made a show that merges disaster movie elements with horror, signed up sociologists to write the script (to get those oh-so-human elements down to a tee), barged into the vacant lot previously inhabited by the X Files and roped in some actors that were in Lord of the Rings (one of the gay hobbits) and The Rules of Attraction??!
I sincerely hope this show is playing in Britain when I get back. I need an alternative to Desperado Housewives and I think this might be it.
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, Lost is a new American tv series about plane crash survivors who land on an island that appears to be full of abnormal activity and creatures. Though it could have easily been a cheesy show, the producers have pulled back on emotional music or happy-go-lucky characters, choosing instead to pitch a bunch of international survivors together who seem to hide secrets of their own. There are, of course, some clichés: the doctor who looks like a doctor from The Bold and the Beautiful, the bad guy who contradicts everything the doctor says and is the most likely candidate to turn the show into a new Lord of the Flies, the little kid with a labrador who talks like a Dawson's Creek escapee. But these little glitches don't take away from the show in general. It's early days (for me at least).
Today's episode, the fourth one, included blood thirsty boars, some monster that lives in the forest, a ghost that walks around in a suit, and Mr. Locke who... erm... I can't give away what he does but the scene with him in the "Walkabout" office was a great twist to end the episode. Mr. Locke was the focal point of the episode and, as the story progressed, we learned more about his life in civilization and why he was allowed to carry a suitcase full of knives into the plane. Sort of like good old Twilight Zone.
Tomorrow night they are showing the fifth episode. I'm *almost* ok now with missing my flight home.
