I spent this morning running around the National Theatre. It was a nice change from my usual dull routine -- ass on chair, eyes on the screen -- and a good way of discovering new niches in the building. I went to the props department (behind the Lyttelton stage) to pick up some spare paper they were getting rid of; the corridors, with their high ceilings, were stacked with all kinds of old props: heads, cutlery, jars, telephones, turtles, etc. Then, just as I climbed the stairs back to my room, one of my colleagues came by, collecting as many people as she could find to carry some chairs from Rehearsal Room 3 to Rehearsal Room 2. As we arrived in Rehearsal Room 3, students started pouring out, their rehearsal just finished. There were dead soldiers, nurses, scuba divers, can-can dancers, prostitutes -- all below 18 years of age. We carried the chairs past the canteen and I saw Michael Sheen, all scraggly beard and black boots, reading some of the newspaper cut-outs on the notice boards. He's been starring in The UN Inspector, which I'll probably never get around to seeing.

All the excertion got me smelling like chlorine, once the sweat broke out; I went swimming this morning in an effort to generate enough energy to get me through the day. It's Friday, after all.

I forgot to mention that I walked by Jim Broadbent a few days ago. He's been starring in Theatre of Blood, one play that I'm desperate to see before it ends (anyone would like to come with me?) His hair is completely white in real life (he must wear a grey wig for the play -- one that comes from the wigs department, just around the corner from us!) A man was talking to him. The man said:

"I hear you are playing a villain at the moment!"

"Oh yes I am," he replied. "It's jolly good fun."

I could have mentioned him in [livejournal.com profile] crapcelebrities but I won't; he seems too dignified to belong to such a trashy community.

It's the effort that counts.

I'd love to go see "Theatre Of Blood" but I'm not sure when would be good. I love the movie and am dubious that anyone could play the role even a 10th as good as Vincent Price but I'd like to see it anyway - call me sometime and we'll work it out.

You posted about the Editors as well didn't you? When are they on? I still haven't heard them but now LOADS of people are telling me I'd love them!

The Editors are sold out! :( But I'm now going to keep an eye open for their next gig, and we should definetly go (and bring Suzi too cause she's now going Indie again.) They sound like a more tuneful Interpol, with a better grasp of Joy Division, and some Dead Can Dance thrown in there for good measure. The album grows on you like crazy, though I do agree with some reviewers that the lyrics are a bit 6-formish (which I actually find endearing.)

I'm scoping out Theatre of Blood details and will let you know.

He's always hanging out at the NT's green room -- the drinking room -- so I'm hoping to one day have a chat with him. :)

Greetings from Yorkshire!
I am back on your turf for a week he he.
I believe the Government may have lied to you all and you are still stuck in March not August! I just wish someone had warned me not to travel in a skirt and t-shirt, dammit! Goose bumps and lips the shade of hypothermia blue are not in this season.

Hope things are going well for you down South and it's warmer.
Have a lovely weekend, catch up with you soon.

Ohhhh, I like Jim Broadbent, he seems like such a sweet man. Has he ever played a baddie?
