Day 8 - Passing

My ex-boyfriend lets me know in the morning our dear friend in Amsterdam passed away. He lost his fight to cancer.

I ask if I can call him. He is crying; I’m in shock. I can’t believe he’s no longer here, can’t imagine him gone.

My mother, who can’t remember anyone who visits us, still has his visit from 2014 clear in her mind. How beautiful he was, she says. What a shame.

I used to tell him my mom hadn’t forgotten him – it made him so happy to know. Now it’s his turn to never be forgotten by us.
