Uncle Ollie

My brother's soon-to-be-wife is pregnant... I'm going to be an uncle!

[identity profile] dawnkitten.livejournal.com 2008-12-21 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats!

Welcome to spending lots of money spoiling your nephew/niece and trying to be a cool uncle (or aunt in my case)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-21 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't wait! It's going to be so much fun. :-)

[identity profile] kirstenlj.livejournal.com 2008-12-21 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Fantastic news, Ollie. You're going to make the best uncle ever.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-21 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
:-D

My brother has no idea how much I'm going to spoil him/her. ;-)

[identity profile] moral-vacuum.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
My nephews are now 23, 21, 20 and 12. I've never sent them a card, bought them a present, and in fact have barely seen or spoken to them in years, despite being close to their monther (my eldest sister). Jo's niece (technically my nioce too, I suppose) I've seen once since birth, and she's now three and a half.

Misanthropy - the gift that keeps on giving!

[identity profile] moral-vacuum.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
This didn't stop me buying a couple of things for Adam and Beth's offpring, but that's because we're not related.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you afraid that a stronger connection to your young relatives will tempt you and Jo into making some lil ones of your own? ;-)

[identity profile] moral-vacuum.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It's more that it might raise expectation that I'd be willing to see them or speak to them in future.

Believe me, there is nothing on this planet that would tempt Jo or me to spawn.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
I think you and Jo would produce cute and smart spawn.

Excellent news :)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
It is! :-D

[identity profile] sallypointzero.livejournal.com 2008-12-21 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you SEEN the sheer magnitude of baby gift plethora there is out there?
You are a RUINED man!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
Tell me about it! It's going to be hard stopping myself from buying STUFF before I leave for Brasil tomorrow.

Is that where uncles get into blows at hockey games?

[identity profile] etre-moral-etre-sincere.blogspot.com (from livejournal.com) 2008-12-22 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations uncle Ollie! That's great news!

Grazie

[identity profile] vilia64.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray! ;)

I don't know how similar Uncle-ing is to Auntie-ing, but I know that it's a blast having nieces and nephews--it's like having kids of your own...but not. ;)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I imagine! Since I'll never have any of my own (or at least it looks like that so far) I want my brother to have tons to make up for it. :-)

[identity profile] vilia64.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey--you never know...:)

But yes, it is a joy to have nieces and nephews--my little heart just goes, 'Awwwww' whenever one of those brats calls me, 'Auntie Tara'--I just melt. Wait, did I just say that? We never had this conversation.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe! I'll remember that when that day arrives that I meet your family. ;-)

[identity profile] vilia64.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well hurry up and visit then! ;)

[identity profile] amanda-mary.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. And thank you for the lovely card!! xo

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa! But who didn't see that coming?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't! I guess it was only a matter of time, but I'm so used to thinking of ourselves in that stage prior to babies... it's going to be fun, but weird too.

You are very welcome.

[identity profile] amberholic.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations! Being an uncle is the best. You get to be adored by your nephew/niece and are entitled to spoil them without any of the pesky responsibilities.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
Can't wait!
