Further Adventures in the No.18 Bus
There was a crazy man on my bus this morning. Have you noticed how everybody has the same reaction to eccentrics? When they start talking to themselves, the crowd's body pulls away; their eyes stare quickly then go back to their newspapers or Da Vinci Code paperbacks. The man looked normal to me, heading for his job or dole lineup. He had short blonde hair and a flat head, as if he came from Eastern Europe. He mumbled something about Harrison Ford as soon as I found a free seat and moved away.
Then he shouted "I'm crazy!"
I felt like shouting back "I'm crazy too!" But there was a nice lady sitting beside me and I didn't want to disturb her. And, of course, I'm not crazy... or at least that's what Napoleon tells me.
