I'm reading a fantasy novel that has no fantasy and a whole lot of intrigue, sex and murder. I'm quite taken by the whole genre polination going on in literature.
I've never read him. The author is Guy Gavriel Kay, who helped the son of Tolkien put together The Silmarillion. This novel I'm reading is based on the Byzantine empire and the way humans lived at that time, but with a pinch of magic and all the other requirements of a best-seller.
Another author I really like is Ursula K. Le Guin. She wrote a novel about a planet of bisexual anarquists which was very thought provoking.
