Happy Days, Because of Us and Because It's Friday
Happy Birthday to
perverseidol and Happy Anniversary to me! Six years ago today, I asked Kevin to go see Bride of Chucky. It was the first time I had asked a guy on a date. Afterwards, we came back to my place, drank orange juice, and he ended up spending the night. I still haven't been able to get rid of him.
I guess this means that forever and ever I will remember the Idol's birthday. In fact, I quite like your username! It reminds me of explorers in some remote jungle who come upon a tiny little statue in a temple, quickly recognize the evil smile on its face before spikes come rushing down through their brains.
Kevin and I exchanged anniversary gifts last night. What we do is buy books for each other. I got him The Master and Margarita, by Mikhail Bulgakov. He bought for me Artic Dreams: Imagination And Desire In A Northern Landscape, by Barry Lopez, a book on the Artic's natural history (it's related to research I'm doing on my novel... only 9 days to go before November!) I also ended up buying a collection of ghost stories by Algernon Blackwood because the days are getting darker, the trees have gone bare and it's time to get cosy with Winter's evil spirits.
***
I went to the movies with nameless friends. I knew Izzy was supposed to come and see the movie with us (sadly, I think it was Shark Tale.) It was getting close to the movie's time and nothing from Izzy. Finally, I called Dilva and she said Izzy was on her way. I left her ticket with the box office and called her to let her know we would be waiting inside.
The cinema's interior was made up of plush red carpets, narrow corridors lit up with weak lamps and cavernous rooms where the movies were shown. I saw Rosie and Steve arrive and I introduced them to my mother. My mother kissed them both on the cheeks. Rosie was wearing a beautiful black dress that seemed to glow, as if it were encrusted with thousands of black gems. Her hair was black and covered by a 1920's style cap. We sat down in the cinema to watch the movie. Steve was beside me. At one point, he asked me if I had any condoms. I said I didn't, that I never carried them around. I looked for Rosie but I couldn't distinguish the faces of the other people in the darkness...
