Names, Names, Names... Are Looking For a Goodtime

I like the way the English say my name: Oh-lee-vah. The Scottish, in the meantime, say Oh-lah-vah. And the Brazilians say Oh-lee-verre (when they say my name correctly at all.) My grandmother, still to this day, eventhough I am her first-born grandchild, cannot say my name correctly. It's Oh-lee-vee or Oh-lee-veh.

Actually, Brazilians who do not speak English don't know how to say my name. I've been called Oliveira, Olivio, Oscar and so on throughout my years in Brazil.

But, despite this most English of names, people who meet me for the first time always assume I'm from a variety of nationalities. I've been confused with Americans, Canadians, French, Quebecois, Israelis, and even - specifically enough - with Glaswegians! Nobody ever guesses that I'm half-brazilian (probably because of my lily-white ass and my green eyes.)

So, here's a little poll which I'm very curious about:

[Poll #403073]

This may sound like a highly narcissistic post - and I guess it is - but, really, I just want to get a general consensus on this. Thanks for participating.

that, and we have a few of the same interests and your lj seems to be entertaining :)

Josie!! how awesome -- that used to be one of my nicknames in high school. I'm a Joanna, called Jo by short [& I must say that "The Jo-down" deserves an electronic HIGH FIVE]

add away, i'm adding you too
Oh, and nice to meet you too-too :)

hehe! when I was in grade 7, my best friend's name was Joanna, and we used to greet each other with, "Hi, Jo!" "oh! Hi, Jo!" or she'd call and leave a message on my answering machine: "Hey, Jo? It's Jo."

and i just used "Jo" a mutha-effin' lot in that paragraph.

and if you've delved into my LJ a little, you'd have noticed the messed up recent post. it's all frayed and incoherent-like. I blame school. and I don't even go to school. but I work in one. and I'm applying to a few. hence, the tired panic.

:)

haha you need not explain your posts, Jo, because mine definitely go from sudden glimmers of coherency and shimmering eloquence to ragged and choppy words thrown together in dissaray. i use "dude" a lot in both cases.

i'm friends with a guy named joe, so whenever someone yells out "Hey Jo(e)!" both of our heads turn. quite confusing!

hehe! i haven't been friends with another "jo" in a while.. but i remember in Grade 2, there was a kid in my class named "Joey" and i'd always have to listen very carefully when the teacher called either of us!
