Message from the Bem-te-vi Gods

The Bem-te-vi tried again to get into my bedroom this morning. Twice.

I woke up from achy dreams to the singing on the balcony and tapping on the glass window. This went on for 10 minutes. Finally, I got out of bed, pissed off at the little bugger, and pulled the curtains open. Once again it flew into the trees. I went back to bed and tried to sleep but half-an-hour later it was back and doing it's schtick again. This time it got bored after a few tries and returned to the trees.

Question: why does this bird want to get into my bedroom so badly? For these past two weeks, I've been leaving all my windows and the balcony door open during the day. It has plenty of chances to wander around my room, poo on the bedsheats... it could even peck my eyes out during one of my afternoon naps. But no! The little devil has to come into the room when all the curtains are drawn and I'm asleep.

In classical times, some cultures considered birds the messengers of gods. Question: is the little Bem-te-vi trying to tell me something? Should I not catch that plane on Tuesday?

it's when the book flips over into the third part - just before toru buys the miyawaki house with the help of cinnamon and nutmeg. the boy hears the bird in the tree in the middle of the night, wakes up, and sees two men standing below the tree. the smaller man climbs the tree and never returns. the tall man buries a box beneath the tree.

It has a lot of heavy symbolism that I never understood. still, it's one of my most favorite books ever. :)

I cannot recall that scene at all!!! Are you sure it's from the Wind-up Bird Chronicle?

A Livejournal friend has suggested that the bird may be trying to get me to investigate the tree he flees too... maybe there's a treasure buried there!

oh man, definitely sure - the number of times I've read and re-read that book is kind of scary. I usually read it two or three times a year! It's only one chapter, and it's a dream sequence...

I bet there is treasure! I think you need to go investigate! Or maybe there are eggs and he thinks you are trying to steal/hurt them?

I'm going to get back to the grind of emailing people about the pope. Booo.

Ah-ya! Good luck with the emails. I'll have to read that book again - I've only read it once and I do feel that there was so much still to be found within its pages. I think I'd probably get so much more out of it from a second reading.

The caretaker's wife brought up the possibility that the bird, when it sees the windows with the curtains closed, sees a reflection of the tree and itself... so it actually thinks its communicating with another bird! I went to the balcony, closed its windows and I could definetly see the tree reflected in the panes.
