Souls Being Saved by the Sun

London is friggin hot, innit? Lovely 24 celsius, shorts, t-shirt, coconut stuff on the skin (40+), towels over the duck shit hiding in the grass and blossoming daisies. Families rowing the boats in Regent's Park, ice cream stalls, sunglasses, hats, The Guardian, Tesco's water bottles & sandwiches & bananas & oranges & mangoes. Kevin's mini-iPod on random, plenty of Magnetic Fields to keep me happy.

Working the white away from my skin, but it takes time and dedication. The sky so blue, the tourists, families and couples falling on the grass beside us as if by exhaustion. Everyone exposing their skin. Kevin in the shade, reading The People's Act of Love. A little black girl in a white dress stops beside me, bends down, plucks a daisy from the grass then runs after her mom. Ducks escort their offspring to the water. The rowers drift over the warming water just a stone throw away from us. A woman purchases a lawn chair for £2, lights up a fag and gets down to her sagging bikini.

A walk home by Baker Street, past the crowds carrying their picnic bags to Regent's Park. Tesco's again for dinner & croissants. I show Kevin a short cut to Maida Vale library.

Only in Britain will you find construction workers, on a sunny Saturday afternoon, singing at the top of their lungs to David Bowie.

We rent (and just watched) Nicholas Nickelby. *Le Sigh*. Must watch My Summer of Love and Koma by Monday. Three movies from the library cost a total of £2.30 to rent.

And it's only 6.42 pm

My friend, you write beautifully. I would love to be there (particularly for the construction workers singing Bowie). Your descriptions are the next best thing.

Seattle has been muggy and rainy, with just enough sun breaks to suck the moisture from the earth back into the air and fill the population with angst.

Mango iced tea in a few, then I'm off to mow the lawn.

Iced tea sounds like a wonderful idea! I wish we'd thought of that one...

London is right now suffering under a drought (the most serious one in over two decades, apparently) so a little bit of rain wouldn't be unwelcome. However, it had been very cloudy recently (and a bit rainy) so today has been a very special one for all Londoners. I can just feel the happiness in the people who walk past us.

And the whole Bowie thing took us by surprise! We were walking past this house, with men hammering and sawing inside; my boyfriend asked if that was Suede playing in the radio and I replied that it was actually Bowie... to which the workers suddenly burst out singing along. It was very cool. :-)

wot! It's been raining NON STOP since, like, last May! Ok, with perhaps 2 clear days between then and now o_0

It should be like today every single day of the year. Perfection ^_^

It should rain during the week, then get sunny and beautiful like today on weekends. I could live with that.

I relayed the story of the singing construction workers to my boyfriend. He wants to know what other music you can suggest, since we also love Pulp and Suede and Bowie. Any recommendations you can make that may not be well known in the states? As a thank you, I will gladly send you all of the Britney Spears and K-Fed albums I can find. Perhaps you can use them as coasters or something.

Do you know Goldfrapp? They have three albums which are brilliant. Their third one has a glam angle which is quite fun.

Hmmmm...

I really like Broadcast as well, a band from Birmingham. And Bloc Party, a band who released their first album last year, are very good too.

Fantastic! We just get Reaggeton here...
