Writer's Block: In The Money

If you won $100 this afternoon, what would you do with it?

I'd go to Cambuí, the next town over, and buy myself a pair of mud-resistant hiking shoes. It's been raining for days and I'm stuck indoors because I only brought with me a pair of shoes that I refuse to get dirty and some Birkenstocks.

After buying the hiking shoes, I'd visit the only bookshop in town and hope they had fiction by Andréa del Fuego, Rodrigo Fresán or José Luís Peixoto. The joys of discovering new authors while watching late night public access television.

I concede that these are not very imaginative ways of spending $100.

I did!

Well, not quite, but I was given £70 as an anniversary gift from my company. Entirely unexpected too.

I am going to spend it on clothes for the bump. As in clothes for me to fit over the bump, he or she is building quite a collection enough from granny without me buying any :-)

either spend it on strippers and a couple pints, or spend it on a new coat.

:)

I'd just buy a nice lunch. I mean how far does $100 go nowadays anyway?

i would buy a vaccuum cleaner.

I would put it towards the doll fund - there's currently a small doll on Ebay, that's on my most wanted list, and the starting bid is only £109.

I don't know. I think I'd ask people on my f-list to nominate a book, an album, and a DVD to buy.

but in all serious ness... buy some leather treater, and don't be afraid to get your hiking boots dirty!
some awesome things can only be seen after getting yoru feet muddied up!

I know this is not very exciting, but I would get a nice haircut. I need one badly but hate to spend on it while trying to conserve.

With that particular sum of money - between 70 and 100 - I think the only way to go is on useful things for yourself. Now if we were talking millions...

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
What kind of strippers can you get for only $100? I'd only accept the ones in the thousands... :-)

Around here, you definitely need boots that tackle mud. Climbing the mountain, going for trecks - everything brings you in contact with mud, mud and more mud.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
You can easily share that $100 with someone else and still have a very good lunch. ;-)

I'd nominate the album "The Reminder" by Feist, which I just bought today. It's a gem. I nearly convinced my mom to get Regina Spektor's CD but she preferred in the end to go with El Divo and Simply Red.

*le sigh*

Don't you have a skilled friend that can help you out with a pair of scissors? Kevin gets his cuts from me and saves pocket money. ;-)

[identity profile] meemeedarling.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Friends with scissors, yes.
Friends who could properly give me a haircut, no.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2007-07-28 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I confess my first thought would be to spend it on clothes, but I hope I would resist and take a friend to a really yummy dinner.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2007-07-28 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ah dang, I could have brought you a copy of that! Anything you want me to bring that I've listed lately?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-07-28 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, no worries! Try to bring as little as you can, so you won't be bogged down with a heavy suitcase. ;-)

Okies!

[identity profile] dawnkitten.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I would buy some CSI DVDs to cheer up my poor injured brother

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
What happened to your bro? I hope it's nothing serious.

[identity profile] dawnkitten.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh long story

Basically he hurt his back at work doing something he'd told his boss he didn't have the right equipment for (and is now suing him) - three medical people have now told him he'll never be able to do manual work again as his back is now screwed permanently :(
