When I was Eighteen

18 years old

I loved mix tapes when I was in high school. I'd make them for the bus trip to school, or for my bedroom at night, when everyone was asleep and all I could see from my window were the distant ships circling Hong Kong. I spent a lot of time with them, and I started to believe eventually that they were a part of me. I was part of the last mix tape generation.

My 18-year-old essence captured on tape:

Morrissey - Everyday is Like Sunday
Belly - Feed the Tree
One Dove - White Love
Blind Melon - No Rain
The Cure - In Between Days
James - Sometimes
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Dear Prudence
Erasure - Oh L'Amour
Cocteau Twins - Bluebeard
Blur - Clover Over Dover
Suede - Animal Nitrate
The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
The Breeders - Cannonball
Shed Seven - Mark

Well Richard said himself that if Neil hast joined the band he would have left that year. And the suede bio said that brett didnt treat him nicely. His first night with them for example he was closed into a hotel room until he wrote a song while the others went out to party. On the last suede gig brett said that maybe suede will come back after some time and richard said he wouldnt XD
Also brett asking bernard to join tears instead of aking him is weird, and also matt and neil joining brett for his solo gigs and not richard is strange too.

I think their relationship was always based on business rather than friendship, since Richard was auditioned and hired; the other members were friends, or friends of friends, which is different. Perhaps in Brett's mind, Richard was never anything more than a session musician.

Yes you are right probably, but its all so sad. Richard was only 17 when he joined, brett should have been nicer to him!

But Brett was going through his heavy drug use; he was in no condition, I imagine, to be best friends with anyone.

Maybe but he was friends with Neil. And after the heavy drug use phase Richard was still around and things werent better I guess. Maybe Richard didnt knew him enough (as the others were friends from before) to deal with his behaviour.
