When I was Eighteen

18 years old

I loved mix tapes when I was in high school. I'd make them for the bus trip to school, or for my bedroom at night, when everyone was asleep and all I could see from my window were the distant ships circling Hong Kong. I spent a lot of time with them, and I started to believe eventually that they were a part of me. I was part of the last mix tape generation.

My 18-year-old essence captured on tape:

Morrissey - Everyday is Like Sunday
Belly - Feed the Tree
One Dove - White Love
Blind Melon - No Rain
The Cure - In Between Days
James - Sometimes
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Dear Prudence
Erasure - Oh L'Amour
Cocteau Twins - Bluebeard
Blur - Clover Over Dover
Suede - Animal Nitrate
The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
The Breeders - Cannonball
Shed Seven - Mark

Aww.

I still have most of the mix tapes I've made for various journeys, all labelled up with stuff like "CORNWALL MIX TAPE!" or "SUNNY DAY TRIP MIX TAPE!" or "CHICKS WILL DIG THIS!" (not even sure what's on that last one).

I mourn the demise of mixed tapes too...I have tons from my teenage years. I may just have to do what you did and post an old pic with a song list from one of my tapes.

I'm working on the photos throughout the ages that you first showed me.
I still have cases FULL of mixed tapes from high school/college days.
I only really know two of your songs. Oh L'Amour was a favorite. The Clash question still applies to various situations.

I think you and I were the same person back then.

The crossover between our musical tastes as well as the actual songs themselves is uncanny.

I think I had almost this exact mixed tape in my car all the time, lol.
