The Year of Magical Hoping

I got that job! I received an employment contract through the mail yesterday and I start on the 14th of July. I'm a little nervous from thinking too much about my future co-workers, the organisation and the job itself. I'm tired of moving around; I want to settle with a job that keeps me happy; I hope this is the one. I'm handing in my one-week notice today (one of the perks of being a temp.)

Yesterday evening, Vanessa Redgrave walked past me as I waited for my train at Embankment station. She smiled at the couple with the baby sitting beside me. There's a glow about her, something soothing. Maybe it's the realization in my head that she doesn't think public transport is beneath her, eventhough she's somewhat famous. She was on her way to the National Theatre, I believe, where she's starring in Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking. Would anyone like to go see it with me?

Mile End tube station cracked this morning under the cackle, screams and laughter of a group of teenage girls by the ticket barriers. Their voices kept rising and rising until I couldn't bear it any longer: I grabbed a waterhose from the wall, turned it on and directed the powerful jet at them. The water pressure was so strong that I had to hold my ground. Their clothes got drenched, their slapper faces melted, their bodies were pushed against the soggy posters on the walls. A perfect way to start the day.

After I splashed them with lots of water, security tried to grab me. I kicked one in the balls, K.O.d another one, jumped over the barriers and ran for one of the trains. I thought I was going to miss the train since it was just departing, but I took a chance anyway and jumped on its rear door as it sped into the tunnel. The door leading into the train was locked so I had to kick it a couple of times until it opened, but this freaked out everyone inside the train because they thought I was some kind of terrorist/assassin/crazy loon. After much screaming and shouting, I managed to calm everyone down by explaining what had happened, and finally I received a standing ovation when it dawned on everyone I had properly shut up some teenies with a powerful water jet.

Now I'm at work and it's a little boring.

Don't say that. The aliens will then think I need destroying before they can take over planet earth.

Yes, sir! Just, I promise, get over that initial "I might try" and do it. It's hard, but then it gets easier and you'll find that you're annoyed on days when you have to take the subway to work. Of course, my work is easier than yours, should I get soaked, I just take a hairdryer to my locks and change into my work clothes!

so then did they raise you up on their shoulders and carry you to the queen mother?

getting teenies to put a lid on it with such showmanship is grounds for knighthood!

When it gets colder, I can see myself using the bus instead. But for those warm days, the bike will be ideal. There's a route by the canal which is brilliant, keeps me away from traffic and should take me less than 15 minutes.

They didn't put me on their shoulders, but they did open a space in the middle of the carriage then clapped their hands to a loud chant of "Ollie! Ollie! Ollie!"

It was kinda cool. I hope someone videod it and uploaded it to YouTube.

I don't want to celebrate until I've started it and know the full extent of what's ahead of me. But I do have a good feeling about it based on who I've met so far, and the organisation itself. I think it's looking good, which is so great. I might have to buy a round of pints to my friends next time I see everyone. :-)

Perfect description: everything about her radiated class. I hope I can reach the same aura when I'm her age.
