Crystallised Weekend

You never know what you're going to find inside a London bus. Yesterday morning, on our way to Canary Wharf's ferry, we found this pack of condoms(?) on one of the No. 277's second floor seats. A straight polish couple that hopped aboard after us picked up the package and took it home.

Canary Wharf's sky scrappers - home to the world's most powerful banks - are silent and dead to the world during weekends. The power towers actually looked beautiful under yesterday's indian summer sunshine. Maybe there were people jumping off the 50th floor, or hanging themselves in the photocopier room, but I didn't see any of that; I only had eyes for the sleek glitter in the architecture, the rich homes lining the Thames, the boat ride that cut the river all the way to London Bridge.
Borough Market was full of slow tourists and rude Londonites so we abandoned its culinary possibilities for a traditional pub lunch nearby. Burgers, chips and beer. And The Guardian.

Crystal Palace's "Dinosaur Park" is located in South London, a short train ride from London Bridge. It was first opened by the Victorians in 1854, a few years before Darwin published his Origin of Species. Victorians, in essence, started the whole dinosaur craze, and this park houses what they imagined them to look like before paleontologists had a better idea from complete sets of escavated dino bones. The park is small, free, and serves as a perfect destination for families with young children and, strangely enough, gay couples on dates.

Today has been another glorious day in/for London; we have been lucky with our Sundays, haven't we? I hope you've been outdoors enjoying it, letting those golden rays soak through your body. I sported my brand-new emo haircut to the gym this morning and nobody gave me funny looks (Kevin's first foray into hairdressing culture seems to have been a success). Came home with some tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella (

On days like this, we eventually end up wandering around Victoria Park, doing a full circuit or finding a spot of grass to lie down. The coffee shop that faces the pond was ridiculously busy and Blondie's "Rapture" on the speakers had one leather-clad dude jiggling his ass all over the place. We bought cappuccinos and brownies then found a bench just beyond the crowds. The view from the bench was the photo above, a pelican peacefully observing the park's comings and goings, no care in this world.
