It was my introduction to this whole new way of socialising and interacting with the net... other sites just don't match it for what it offers.

I agree. Although I avoided LJ for years, but Lisa persuaded me to get one and look what happened!

I've got no idea where I'd decamp to if LJ went belly up, Facebook doesn't quite ring all the right bells for me the way LJ has.

I'd probably sit back and wait to see which system accomodated the majority of my friends - perhaps even have a few accounts going in different places - before settling down in a new home.
