Valentine's Day

It's Dia dos Namorados in Brasil (Day of the Lovers, our version of Valentine's Day). If we had 50 rooms available, we'd have 50 couples to deal with, plus a waiting list. As we are still in a pandemic, we are only receiving two couples. We prepared their bedrooms this morning and left them a few treats (some Ferrero Roche, some petals, little cheesy love balloons, wine glasses and cork screws.)
We've had the pousada for 15 years now and some guests proudly tell us their children were conceived here. Some are now teenagers!

Hmmm. A pousada do amor?

Sim! A good name for us to keep in mind as we go about our work here. 🙂

Where in Brazil are you located.

In the southern tip of the state of Minas Gerais, in a mountain range called Serra da Mantiqueira. 😊

Ah that’s cool! My mom’s family is from here but I was raised in São Paulo (but came here often). Do you speak Portuguese?

Yes, very true. And where are you from? Have you ever visited Brazil?

Yup! We do! But it’s just as commercial as Valentine’s.

No, I have been to Brazil. I am from the US. I started to study Portuguese because I saw it As an excellent complement to Spanish to communicate with most of Latin America. In addition, Portuguese presence is growing significantly in the traditional Spanish territory of South Florida. Unfortunately, I felt Spanish was more of a priority in my area because I have more contact with it.
