The Wait

Kitchen companions.

I woke up at 5.30am today because our remaining guest asked if he could have his breakfast at 7am instead of 8am. By 6.15am I had everything laid out. Now, while I wait for my brother to deliver fresh bread from the local bakery, I sit in the kitchen with the following for company:

- A cup of coffee with milk heated up in the microwave
- Two thermos bottles filled with coffee that mom and I will drink throughout the day
- A large pot of butter that I have to keep reminding mom not to leave in the fridge otherwise it will go rock hard
- Adocyl artificial sweetener, which mom consumes fairly quickly
- My Kindle, with me and Arlo on the cover (he was a cat near my workplace in London that co-workers and I liked to take selfies with); it was my team’s goodbye gift.

He is! And he was so friendly... almost too friendly (we were always worried that someone would kidnap him one day.)
