The Time I Saw a Ghost

It has only happened once, though I had tried many times as a kid to see them. I even forced an aunt of mine, who lives in Corrego do Bom Jesus (a little town in Brazil whose name, translated to english, means Good Jesus's Little Stream -- my mom was born there and I'm related to every single person living there) to take me to the town's cemitery at night. I guess I watched too much Scooby-Doo and Caspar to know any better.

I was living in Montreal, and had returned from Summer holiday in Brazil to start my 3rd year in uni. When I got there, the only friends I had in town weren't back yet so I had to book myself into a hotel for one night. The cab driver, who was portuguese, helped me find a place in the Village (for all of you who know Montreal, you'll know that the Village ain't the classiest place on the planet.) I think the hotel was called The Alexis, or something like that.

It was a non-descript place, and my room was very ordinary (with a bible in one of the bedside table drawers, white walls, dodgy cleanliness.) I walked the block, ate a burger (oh, the days when I could still eat the ass of a cow with a straight face!) then came back to the hotel for a bath. Eventually I just crawled into bed and went to sleep.

In the middle of the night I woke up. I had heard a noise in the room and i thought I had left the tv on. But the tv was off and so I looked around. That's when I saw a little boy crouching in the corner of the room. He had his arms around him, as if he was protecting himself. He then slowly merged with the wall and disappeared. I fell back on my pillow and told myself I had had a hallucination, or was dreaming, but I was wide awake!

The next morning I approached the lady at the front desk and told her I had something strange to ask. She took a step backwards, as if I was going to invite her to an S&M session. I asked her if there was ever a little boy that had died in that room. She was very confused, so I told her what happened. I could tell she was spooked, but by then I was really enjoying the whole thing (bad, isn't it?)

And that was it. I never went back, though I've been tempted. I do believe in ghosts, but I don't have a formed opinion as to what exactly they are... could they be just a print from the past that we are able to see? Or are they trying to contact us?

Now I want to hear your stories... Albinopriestess, I can tell you've got some to share!

I don't think I have actually seen a ghost but weird things have happened. Once when I had a really bad fever I was lying in my mothers waterbed and you could see her big mirror from the bed. I looked at the mirror to see a man in what looked like a black suit just sort of floating right above where I was. As I was looking at him in the mirror, he turned his head to look at me by looking into the mirror. I think he winked. He was smiling so he seemed to be very nice. When I actually looked up he wasn't there. I dunno if it was all in my head or what but it sort of reminded me of City of Angles when the girl had a bad fever and was about to die so she saw the angel. Maybe it was a guardian angel or something. It did not leave me spooked at all, it left me feeling a sense of protection...

Another little story: Once when I was in bed, about to fall asleep, I felt something hit me in the face. It felt like a little stuffed animal or something. I didn't come to my senses quickly because I was tired. Then I realized what happened. It felt as if someone had thrown it at me. But the direction it came from was towards the wall next to my bed. Nothing could have fallen in that direction. I ran and turned the lights on and did not see anything and could not find anything that could have hit me in the face so it was just weird.

Also on 2 ocassions I swear I have seen a witch flying across a full moon. Once was Holloween (how appropriate) and another was just an ordinary night. Scared me. I told my mom and she said she has seen it too before when she was little. The funny thing is that when I saw this I didn't bother to tell anyone else to look at the moon in order to verify if I was the only one who could see it or not.

Ghost stories are fun. I have a slight facination with ghosts. It's like I want to see them, yet again, I don't. Ya know?

I adore ghost stories, and I do believe in spirits floating around us.
What exactly they are and where they come from, I do not claim to know.

I personally have never seen a ghost, but my Mum has. She was staying at an old Bed & Breakfast in Edinburgh, Scotland. She said she was asleep in bed, and she got the feeling as though someone was looking at her. She awoke and saw the glowing figure of a lady, wearing a white nightgown with long blondish-brown hair. The lady was just standing at the end of her bed, looking at my Mum. Then she just vanished. Mum said it didn't really scare her, the idea is scary, but she had a calm feeling around the *ghost, like she knew it wasn't there to harm her in any way.

I love your ghost story! But how sad that the little boy had been trying to protect himself from something. Poor little fellow.

sometimes i think that ghosts are just people living in a different dimension, and sometimes there is a tear in that dimension, and it overlaps with ours...and the ghosts we see might also see US as ghosts...

but that's just one of my cockamamie theories

WOW!!! I´ve had really bad times with that!!!

It used to happen while I was living in Uberaba, Minas Gerais.

Actually, the first time I saw "someone" was inside my bathroom in another place where I´d lived before Uberaba. This was absolutely shocking... I used to dream with this guy every single night - an old guy who looked like an indian or something like that - since I was 7 or 8 years old... Every dream that I had, he would be there somehow... Then, when I was about 14, I saw him standing in the bathroom, looking at me. I obviously closed the door and ran away... Somebody told me I should´ve tried to find out who he was and what he was doing there, that I should´ve "developed" this incredible power... So many stupid things to hear at that time...

Then I have never seen him again (thank God), but in 1993 I started "feeling and seeing things". I was so scared that I couldn´t sleep for exact 41 days!!!!!!

The thing is that I used to feel myself getting out of my body - do you understand me? - while I was sleeping. This was the worst sensation I´ve ever had... I could see myself going away. I used to get really hurt, with huge bruises all over my body, while trying to "come back"... And that´s why I´ve stopped sleeping - I was really afraid of never coming back...

And, besides that, my apartment was always "full of people", though I lived alone, all by myself. There were children, and ladies, and old men. They´ve never spoken to me, but they were there... The last "person" I saw, was a pregnant woman in the living room of my apartment. My mom, who´s a very religious woman, took me to see a really "SPECIAL" guy, who talked to me about that and helped me in a way you´d never understand... Since then, I´ve never seen anyone else... AND I´M EXTREMELY HAPPY ABOUT THAT!!!!

I´ve forgotten to say that this last comment was posted by me, Lê Léca...

It's amazing to see that so many people live with these experiences of ghosts, but we sometimes keep it to ourselves because they are so intimate and frightneing experiences. Thank you everyone for sharing...
