OI Gente BONita!!!
Apr. 17th, 2002 11:19 amIt`s been a long comedown but I`m finally ok... let me just say that the interview with Morcheeba yesterday was perfect!! I couldn`t have asked for better. Here is how it went:
I got to the Conrad Chelsea hotel around 13:45 and asked the reception where the interview would be. The guy didn`t know what I was talking about so I panicked for a second. I told him I would be sitting in the reception and if anyone appeared saying they were from Morcheeba, to call me. About 5 minutes later this guy comes up to me and asks me if I`m Oliver. I say yes, and behind him, close to the elevator, I can see Ross Godfrey, one of the guys in the band. Ted (the guy who is talking to me) says they`ll go up to the room and he`ll come back for me. Fine. I sit down and wait. Soon I see Skye arriving, walk behind me and head for the door. She is wearing a white jacket, a funny looking skirt, and her hair looks cool (one side shaved and the other sticking straight down like an inverted harp - did I explain that well?)
A few minutes later Ted comes back for me and we take the elevator. He tells me that it`s only me interviewing them (panic attack again!!!) and asks me if I liked the album - i had received it on monday. I say yes (very true - the album is BEAUTIFUL. There`s a song called Sao Paulo, about... you guessed it.) We go into the room and Ross G. is sitting in the bedroom. Ted takes me to the living room and I`m introduced to Skye. She was immediatly warm. I told her I had lived in Sao Paulo and she was going to have to explain that song for me (the song is about the decay of Sao Paulo and how promises for them to go to Rio were not fulfilled.) She laughs and I sit down. We started chatting so effortlessly, she was great.
Time flew by and she left to go make a phone call. Ross G. came in, offered me a beer - I refused - then sat down to talk to me. By this time I had realized one thing... these people were just as nervous as me! It was as if they had no clue why they were supposed to be there, that it was all a silly game! I talked to Ross, and then his brother Paul, about Tropicalia (a big influence in the album), when they are coming to Brasil (only next year - hopefully for the FreeJazz festival) and all kinds of "Braziliana" stuff. Needless to say, the whole thing flew by. Before I knew it, Ted was telling me I had five minutes. I thanked them (and they thanked me) and I got ready to leave. Then, to my surprise, Paul G. told me that they were going to play a special gig in May, just for the press, with a full string arrangement, and that they would send me tickets!!!! YEIII!!!
Afterwards, walking home, I felt very weird, like I was flying over everyone. People in the tube looked grumpy, half-asleep, and before I knew it I was staring at this stinky fat man with a grin of happiness on my face!
But then came the comedown, the fact that I had to deal with the rest of my day... so I just sat at home, listening to their CD, looking out of the window... waiting for Kevin and Silke to come home... just waiting for the day to end...
Bruno tells me that this interview, or review (I still don`t know what Trip is going to do with it) will come out in the issue 101. Probably in two months, so look out for it!! And hopefully I`ll get more jobs like this, to meet some fabu artists and get good music!!!
ahhh... now I`m at work... it`s calling me... let me know what you are up to, what weird and wacky adventures you`ve been into lately. And if you haven`t been in any... then find one!!!
love,
