the 90s is starting to feel like the 80s for me... and the 80s a forgotten realm, a blurry, glittery, made-up world. Maybe chips were stuck in our head when we were kids, the whole thing created by a giant computer.

So what are we going to call our decade? the 00s? How do you say that? The Noughties (as they call it in England)? Ok, pointless questions...

Let's just live in the past, let's forget, at least for a while. Then lets come crashing back into the stratosphere and clean up the mess left behind by the Baby Boomers...

"Protracted recessions twinned with terrorism can have only one effect. The traditional downtown will be rendered redundant by the dispersal of high-tech organizations... into smaller, more manageable regional sub-units... as populations and businesses scatter, small bunkers will replace absurdly over-constructed titans such as the World Trade Centre. Across Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Utah, he foresees a near future in which 'sprawl, addiction, violence, and simulation will have overwhelmed every vital life-space west of the Rockies.' He confirms Las Vegas, a city of 'prodigal over-consumption', sprawling industry, and a poverty-stricken heart, as the apogee of unsustainability."

- Burhan Wazir reviewing "Dead Cities: A Natural History" by Mike Davis.
