Kebabs + Madonna = wonderful digestion
Jul. 22nd, 2004 12:08 pmMy two sisters-in-law arrive tomorrow from Canada. They will be living with Kevin and I for a year (perhaps more.) Their bedrooms are of equal size and face the canal. They can sit by their windows and watch tourists board the travelling barges, or get inspiration from the joggers that use the paths beside the water.
I spent a good two hours yesterday on my feet, photocopying articles on Accounting and Finance. Then I went home, moved more stuff, and wiped the new fridge clean. There's a lot of children in the new apartment building and they love to scream. As I peeked at them from my kitchen window, I witnessed a baloon full of water crashing on the head of one of them.
When I returned to the old apartment, I swung by our local Kebab shop and bought two Shawarma sandwiches. We ate it while listening to a Madonna song on Magic FM (A man can tell a thousand lies, I learned my lesson well...) I decree this month to be a month you are allowed to listen to Madonna - any of her songs prior to 1990. Go ahead, retrieve your Immaculate Collection from under the floorboards. It's ok to eat lovely Turkish food, drink beer and just let those badly-aged Madonna tunes soak you.
We slept for the first time in the new apartment. I woke up various times, ill with the smell of paint that still permeates the place. I also vaguely remember looking around the room for any ghosts. There was no food in the flat this morning so we showered and made our way to a cafe near our work. The cappuccino and sandwiches were overpriced.
One of my sisters-in-law (I call them The Sissys) will be turning 31 tomorrow. I'm going to buy her a mug with the Queen's face, and something else. Ideas appreciated.
