I just came back from the supermarket, where I bought a copy of the National Enquirer and The News of the World. There`s nothing better than spending a Sunday afternoon reading quality newspapers. I must be feeling inspired from watching Palindromes last night. I`m thinking of buying the soundtrack to the movie; it's that good. :-P

Subtle changes have taken place in Soho since I was there 2 and a half months ago. New shops, new restaurants, new staircases that lead nowhere and have signs that say "models". Reco, Kevin & I, after Palindromes, went to that pub just beside the theatre that has been showing Les Miserables since the end of World War II. We had pints of Stella and talked about movies unable to shock us anymore. You can almost draw a graph through your life with the few movies that made you want to puke. I still remember watching Pink Flamingoes in a repertoire cinema in Montreal. I wasn`t really prepared for that classic last scene; I started retching and had to take a deep breath and think of something else until the credits ran. Then, when I saw Happiness a few years later, half of the cinema stood up and walked out when the paedophile drugged his son`s school friend and... And who hasn`t felt sick watching Short Cuts, with that scene at the park? Takes everyone by surprise first time around. Or the final scene in Hard Core Logo. Damn, I wish I could see that movie again.

Making fun of Christians is dead easy. Making them watch a movie that makes fun of them is another story altogether. At times, it felt like Kevin, Reco & I were the only ones laughing histerically.

When the bells tolled at 11 o'clock, we spilled out into the streets like everyone else. Old Compton Street was crowded with people lining up for clubs, walking hand in hand, laughing, having a good time. Two gay men walked past us holding hands; another queer couple stopped for a kiss. So tame and tasteful. But if my grandmother had been with me, she`d have been shocked.
