It's been a long time since I rock & rolled with 12 year olds. In fact, it's been 18 years. When I agreed to go with Silke last night see The Kooks, live at The Garage, I had no idea I'd be standing in a crowd of teenagers, telling myself I was imagining things when girls smelling of chewing gum gave me the evils. I even spotted a couple of moms and dads propping up the bar as their kids crowd surfed, played tongue-twisters and compared their Converses.

Opening band was a oozing sore of teenage pimples called The Eraserheads. Their songs were angry complaints about having to do their homework, or something. Then The Kooks came on but, despite a few potential moments where the songs could have become interesting, they never grabbed me or lit up the room. Before we knew it, they were gone -- without even an encore.

What was surprising about last night was that I ended up chatting a lot with Andy. I didn't even think it was displeasing when his saliva landed on my lips when he shouted at me about how boring the bands were. In the end, I convinced him, Silke and Helen to go see Amato Saltone, which is an interactive play that makes you feel as if you are inside a 50s Pulp Novel, a David Lynch movie and Hitchcock's Rear Window all at the same time.

If you live in London, you MUST try to go see Amato Saltone. I promise that you won't be disappointed. It's inside the London Bridge's Vaults and it's unlike anything else happening in this city.
