Dum Dee Dum Dum
Apr. 10th, 2010 02:53 pmI love all-girl bands. I love C86 (lived through it but don't remember a thing). I love hints of Motown. I love pop hooks. And so it was really only a matter of time before the Dum Dum Girls would strut into my view. I nabbed their track "Jail La La" from here - the first fifty seconds trick you into believing you are listening to one sort of song (perhaps a B-side from The Flatmates, The Siddeleys, the Shop Assistants or Tallulah Gosh) when suddenly the chorus comes in and you are hit by an early Mutantes hook that redeems the whole thing. I've test run tracks from their MySpace page and now I'm looking forward to getting their debut.
I love getting songs stuck in my head - I think that's the ultimate proof of a pop song's strength. (Barney's theme song and ads on TV don't count.)
Unrelated to this post: am I detecting a faint whiff of Grunge revival in the air?
