Postcards from the Edge

A few months ago I went to the local post office to despatch some letters.
‘Haven’t seen these in a while!’ said the lady behind the counter.
‘Don’t people write letters anymore?’
‘No.’
It took her a while to figure out which stamps were used for which countries, and how she’d lay them down on the envelopes without covering the addresses. Then another surprise: Australia was not receiving any post from Brazil! Probably because of COVID-19 we concluded.
Yesterday, in a different post office, the young lady held my postcards with strangeness then turned to her colleague. Did they send that type of mail? And where did the stamps go? He wasn’t sure; but they were accepted anyway though there were some doubts on whether they should be registered or go with a regular stamp.
They took my money and shelved them, to be dealt with later. Luckily they didn’t ask why both cards featured Kate Middleton and Price William getting married.
