Meeting a Livejournal friend for the first time

On Friday, Kevin and I took the tube to Brixton after work. [livejournal.com profile] dawnage had given us directions to a pub, The Beehive, near the station's exit. As we climbed the escalators, the station was swarmed with policemen and two men arrested. It was drizzling and cold outside.

We ordered two Kronenburgs in the crowded pub. I texted Dawn to let her know we were standing by the fireplace, at the back. I kept looking at the faces, the women sitting down or standing, trying to recognize her. I had seen photos of her in her user icons, and a few from a party at her house in september (she was singing to Phil Collins in the photo.) Then I saw her walking towards us, scanning the room. I waved and she found us.

She was wearing a t-shirt, underneath her winter coat, that said GAYANIMALSEX - SUEDE. 10 years old and vintage. Suede fans out there would offer good money for it. She ordered a glass of white wine and we stood by the fireplace, chatting. Kevin laughed at us when we referred to people on livejournal: I've known teqkiller for years! P***ky is awful, the first time I met him I thought he was greasy! She had also figured out my alternate journal... she was very observant. Being a Taurean, she reminded me of my mother - defined views and a strict teacher (later on, when she showed us how she controlled her students, I saw some Japanese Suede fans standing behind us flinch away in fear!)

We drank and waited for her friend Sonia to arrive (she would come later because she had to put her daughter Daisy to bed.) When she arrived, we sat down on a recently vacated table. An old man, drunk, was already sitting there but he didn't mind us. He was curious about where we were going, despite never having heard of Suede. Sonia almost convinced him to come with us to the gig.

Finally, after leaving our winter coats in Sonia's car (so we wouldn't have to face the coatcheck on the way out) we got into Brixton Academy for Suede's penultimate gig. When they came on stage, [livejournal.com profile] dawnage disappeared. (Later, we would learn that she almost got into a fight with another girl at the front - and had her arms "gently" moved by a bouncer). Sonia, Kevin and I stayed behind, jumping, dancing, awed by how great Suede were on stage.

When it was over, Sonia offered to drive us to Brixton tube station. But the roads led to alleys with dead ends, the buildings all looked the same, and we began to laugh. We were close to getting lost.

"You can tell livejournal that a single-mother got us lost in Brixton!" Dawn said.

"I'm not a single-mother!" Sonia cried. "I'm just never getting married."

In the tube train, we hugged Dawn goodbye and said we might go to her party the next evening (eventhough, deep down I knew I wouldn't go - I'm lazy like that.) We followed her suggestion for dinner: kebabs... and lay our smokey clothes with the dirty laundry before passing out in bed.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
i would hope so! are you coming to london soon??

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
always teasing me.

[identity profile] 4q.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
sounds like a good time was had by all :)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
oh definetly... the encore was a bit depressing because they played all their sad songs...

but it was a generally good night.

and sat/sun I got to watch lots of movies.

what was your weekend like?

[identity profile] 4q.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
it was pretty good...I got a lot done...presents for everyone!!!

I dont know I am just depressed...nothing seems good or fun anymore..although saturday was pretty fun

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
why??? you have a great boyfriend, a job (money), you can go out and have fun... are you still upset about those plans of yours to come to England? Or is it something else?

[identity profile] 4q.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
I dont' know..it's something inside me that tells me I am miserable, and that I hate everything around me. I get waves of rage washing over me, where I cant even think, and I jsut want to scream until I have no voice

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
what about taking a martial arts course, like kick boxing? A friend of mine in Montreal, who was very frustrated with her life, took it... she just put all her energy into kicking the punching bag.

I actually think I might do that too!

[identity profile] 4q.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
hmmm anything that would help me loose weight would be good...I think that's the route of a lot of this...I have gained a lot of weight since the trauma, I really binge on food, and I have gained like about 30 pounds since that happened..I have more or less come to understand this and why I am doing it to myself...but yeah..I really need to do something about it

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
that would be a great way of losing weight... and gaining strength. If that ever were to happen to you again (which it won't, because I'm knocking on wood and I say so...) then you'd be able to protect yourself.

;o)

[identity profile] 4q.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
I have always wanted to go to kickboxing..but I am scared! I don't know if I can put myself out there like that...I would do a one on one thing, but I am not sure if I could do it in a big class

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
but wouldn't it be fun to meet people at these classes? if you take a beginners class, everyone is in the same boat as you - everyone is just starting...

[identity profile] 4q.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
that's true...I am out going, but I really have a hard time meeting people, that actually want to hang with me...everyone is so busy with their own lives

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
i hear you... still, they could be just the kind of people that it's ok to have a class with, but you all go your ways afterwards.

i'm sure the teacher would be... ermm... hot.

;)

[identity profile] 4q.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
hahahaa I am getting sold...

[identity profile] moonlightjoy.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
you know what's realy funny is that a few minutes ago, this thing had no comments in it, and all of a sudden there are twelve! (thirteen now including mine)

sounds like you had fun.. cool. Is Kevin on LJ?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
hehe... it's me and [livejournal.com profile] 4q. we chat a lot. :D

Kevin is not on LJ and he doesn't want to be. Can you believe that blasphemy?

[identity profile] moonlightjoy.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
enh.. it's probably for the best. does he read yours?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
no... he's just not interested in journals.

[identity profile] moonlightjoy.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
well that's okay.. i see a lot of drama from people who have journals along with significant others.

actually... no that's not entirely true.

it's just that i have a friend on lj whose girlfriend is also on lj and they've been bickering back and forth lately and caused my friend to delete her journal for some time. it was .. ugly.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-16 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
i wouldn't mind if kevin joined... it would be fun if he got to meet all of you... but the thing is that Kevin spends a lot of time drawing, so he doesn't want to take his time away from that and invest it in Livejournal... he's seen how much it can take away from your life.

;)

[identity profile] moonlightjoy.livejournal.com 2003-12-16 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
well, does he like getting feedback on his drawings? posting them on lj would be fun, no?

at least he doesn't get all jealous-boyfriend on your ass and get you to delete your journal!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-16 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
He would be scared of someone stealing the image and claiming it as their own... copyrights, etc. And he's not jealous at all... i tell him about my guy friends on lj and he just laughs.

:D

[identity profile] moonlightjoy.livejournal.com 2003-12-16 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
cool... i was just saying because there was that incident dilva wrote about with the wife making her husband delete his journal. and then my friend [livejournal.com profile] judyna deleted hers for a while after her girlfriend go jealous...

anyway, Kevin seems really cool. bring him to montreal with you.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-17 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
i will... :D

i can't wait to meet you and go dancing in Unity! that will be fun...

[identity profile] moonlightjoy.livejournal.com 2003-12-17 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
it WILL! if you're in town during one of my Queer Girl meetups, you're welcome to join (boys are allowed.. we're not exclusionary)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-18 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
excellent. :D

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-16 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
when we go on that double date, we'll leave our boys talking about art while we gossip on the other side of the table.

;o)

[identity profile] jellyfishfur.livejournal.com 2003-12-16 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
sounds good.

[identity profile] dawnage.livejournal.com 2003-12-15 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You make me sound so interesting! :D

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2003-12-16 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
well... i just recounted the night as it was!

;)
