The workless day chugs along

I just had a walk through Covent Garden on my lunch break. I never noticed the rent boys and prostitutes before! It seems a bit obvious now, the way they stand in front of doors leading up to apartments over the shops, that haggard look compounded by endless chain-smoking, the unglam outfits that seem so out of place in the midst of the fashion parade. You could say that everyone walking through Covent Garden is a whore - but actually having to stand there under the sun seems undue punishment for people who are just trying to make a living. I think Red Ken should do an "Amsterdam" on Covent Garden.

I also saw a bloke that looked suspiciously like [livejournal.com profile] psych0_ex. I thought about going up to him and asking. If it is him, I'm happy to report that he's lost weight and become quite muscular.

I bought my lunch in M&S and helped an elderly german couple find the counter with the pre-maid sandwiches. They seemed awfully grateful. Then I went to Paperchase and bought some gifts for Jennifer (one of the Sissys): a journal with pink, purple and black dots covering it and a pen with purple ink.

I look ridiculous today in my all-blue outfit.

I picked up the best shirt last time I was in Covent Garden, I also performed at a pub there and had a terribly good sandwich at a little bistro. I have so many good memories of my time in England, I really need to go back.

How long ago was your last visit?

I am so jealous of the fact you live in London. I can't get enough of it. Whenever I see my favourite hangouts mentioned I cringe with envy.

When did you live here? And for how long?

[identity profile] cedarseed.livejournal.com 2004-07-23 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
I never lived there, but I managed to go four times between 2001 and 2003. I sort of "lived" there during a month in the summer of 2001, the point of which stay was to experience the place as opposed to visiting it . It was fantastic.

I've only lived here for 2 years and a half, and it's really starting to grow on me. I like how multi-cultural the city is, how there's always something going on, the free museums, the parks, the ease in travelling to other European countries. But I don't know if I could live here all my life: the pace is too hectic and the air quality of the city not that good.

That's why I haven't considered moving there. The weather sucks, too.

But you know what?? This Summer has been very sunny! I grew up with my dad telling me how awful the weather was in England, but it's really not all that gloomy during Spring and Summer. And I appreciate the fact that it's not that cold too during Winter.
