May Garth Marenghi Watch Over Me
I'm writing a horror novel. Last night, I had the horrifying realization that this is, perhaps, the hardest genre to write. You can so easily fall into cliches, fail to scare anyone and end up with endless pages of non-suspense. Kinda like most Livejournals. Still, I plough onwards.
I borrowed Kevin's bag so I can carry around my notes, pens and notepad. Instead of reading fiction on the bus, I read over my notes. I jot down new ideas with a red pen. I have difficulty in finding the names of my characters. It's also hard to feel myself in their place, to see things through their senses.
On my lunch break, like now, I do research on the net. I'll probably have to do even more research once the novel is finished. When I look at what I've written, I know there is a lot of editing ahead of me. For now, I remind myself to have fun with it and to not allow myself to get stuck in a corner. Kinda like taking ecstasy. I used to be the last one to come down. I'd find a light in a secluded corner of the club. I would tell myself that whenever the high was ending, if I looked at that light I would go up again. It always worked.

I'm not sure what's been stopping me. Lack of self confidence in regards to ideas and vocabulary I suppose. Thinking I couldn't do it never made me stop and think that I should try just for the hell of it.
