Nightfall, by Dean Koontz. It terrified me for about eight years before I finally finished it and found out it was totally stupid. Sucks when that happens. It was all about these little things with silver eyes that terrorized a girl and also killed people in horrific ways. They came through the airvents and we had central air. *shudder* I didn't pass under them directly for several years after.
