Civilized Goths in Pub Out(r)age

I met some goths yesterday and got drunk. Everyone was dressed to the nines, with their shiny black boots, pressed band t-shirts and slick hair. Even the piercings seemed to glow underneath the Ice Wharf's lights. And then there was me, uber caj, uber low tolerance, trying not to fall asleep to conversations about cellphones. Then someone took a photo of me with my eyes rolled up, my tongue sticking out, and I'm sure it's going to be plastered all over the net and I'll have to ask for it to be removed because eventhough I said I don't mind any pictures of myself when it comes to pictures with your tongue sticking out, with that yellow streak that always appears on the muscle, then you really don't want random strangers looking at it. Tongues are very private.

There was a surprise high turnout of goths. The pub itself, which I had never been to before, had a large non-smoking area (yet my clothes still stank this morning), a vast bar counter and low music. I spent most of the afternoon at the smokers table, having to watch them leave for their nicotine breaks every 15 minutes, then return for conversations about 24-hour drinking, movies, evilness on Livejournal and skinheads with skirts. Goths on other tables would lift their pints at me, wave hello, or call me over.

I had nice conversations with people I already knew and with some new faces. As the afternoon progressed, and I downed more pints, I could feel my speech get slurred. Why, damn you all, was I the only one to get drunk?? Very unfair. I think there was some mild teasing of my person when I tried to buy pudding and fingers for some miscreants. And, later, I found myself discussing how certain goth women are very sexy and which good one-liners should be used to pick up chicks! This is very bad behaviour for a gay man... I lay the blame, of course, on the alcohol and can only feel happy that I managed to get home fairly quickly, eat leftover pizza, drink hot chocolate with marshmellows, watch Brat Camp, then fall dead asleep...

Oh, and I danced around my bedroom to The Adicts Chinese Take Away.

It was me who took that photo, and it's already on my website, although I haven't posted the link yet. Do I really have to take it down? I am getting a bit fed up with having to take photos down! At this rate there will be no photos left at all.

btw, you weren't the only one to get drunk. I was practically asleep on the table by the time everyone went.

Of course you don't have to take it down... I was joking with you about it yesterday, remember? I really don't care... let everyone see my ugly tongue. :-)

And it isn't fair that you get drunk only after I've left.

Oh, good :-) I didn't want a repeat of last week and couldn't tell if you were joking or not what with the current climate of people only allowing other people to see photos of them where they resemble supermodels.

Actually, I had decided to post it anyway so it wouldn't have made much difference.

I think I was drunk long before you left, probably before you even *arrived*. Perhaps you were too drunk to notice, or perhaps you have never seen me not-drunk so you didn't notice the difference.

I've come to terms with the fact that I'm never going to be a glamour model or page 3 tottie. So please post any pics of me from now on without any guilty conscience. :-P

It was brilliant to see you, and I can assure that if we hadn't left early to have dinner, I would probably have been very drunk as well!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Next time you and Tom must promise to stay and get drunk with me.

[identity profile] steer.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm horrified by public drunkenness and flaunting of tongues.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure there would have been none of that if you had been in attendance. ;-)

[identity profile] naturalbornkaos.livejournal.com 2005-01-23 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I was BLIND drunk by the end of the evening, so don't worry too much!

Thank you again for coming and, of course, for the book. :) I will let you know how I enjoy it, when I finish. :)

You are welcome! I'm looking forward to your opinion on the book, and don't feel bad about telling me if you don't like it! Always good to get differing views on novels.

[identity profile] 4q.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
ha ha I love this story. Your life is better then mine!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah... just different. There's a lot of good and light in yours too. And don't let anyone or anything tell you otherwise.

[identity profile] 4q.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
alright, that might be true. But still. I want to go out and see things that are different then what I see everyday.

I am very disappointed that I won't be able to go to brazil!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
But you will! Only maybe not now... but I know you will one day.

[identity profile] 4q.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)

I am glad you hung out with some goth kids. Also, that you got pissed. Good times.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-01-25 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
Definetly. ;-)

[identity profile] idioticpoet.livejournal.com 2005-01-25 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there some sort of law dictating that gay men can't appreciate feminine beauty?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-01-26 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
It goes against the stereotype.

[identity profile] damiella.livejournal.com 2005-01-26 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a great night out! It reminded me of my outings to the Devonshire Arms in Camden.

What part of town was this pub in?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-01-27 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
It was in Camden! Actully, most of them went to the Dev afterwards. ;-)

Mushrooms are also very sexual and yet I don't like them.

"Tongues are very private" Hahahahahaha!!! Sure!!! And getting drunk sometimes means that our tongues loose their privacity... in many ways!! ehem ehem!! :P (does "privacity" exist?? O_o)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
Privacy you mean? I hope it exists! Though I'm sure not as much as before...
