The bus ride to Córrego do Bom Jesus took longer than expected because of a truck accident on the road. By the time we pulled into Cambuí's bus station (Córrego doesn't have a bus station so we have to use the one from the nearest town) the sun had disappeared and heavy rain was pouring down. My mom was waiting for me with Tete on a leash. A man was standing with her and she introduced me to him... he was the mayor of Córrego! It was the first time I met a mayor, even if he was only the mayor of a town with 3,777 inhabitants. He has invited my mom to be part of Córrego's tourism board, and he was talking to her about using his term to invest heavily in tourism. He looks like a nice man, though my mom told me later that he was recently in trouble for inviting his lover to work as his secretary - he is a married man, and so is she. Her husband found out about their affair and went to the mayor's office to beat him up.

As I told you before, my mom is converting our farm into a business. She has built rooms attached to the house and she is going to transform the place into a country retreat (we call it pousada in Portuguese, which means a type of Bed & Breakfast where food is served all day.) I slept in one of the bedrooms overlooking the distant mountains that surround Córrego, and which will be used for the pousada.

This morning, I watched cable tv (mostly the music channels) for a while then walked around the house taking photos of everything. My film has run out and now I wait patiently for my mom to brew a cappuccino. Tete is lying on a pillow nearby, curled up like a black sleeping cobra.

I wish I could bring Tete back... but she wouldn't like our small apartment, or being alone for most of the day. She's the type of dog that needs constant company. Also, she has the freedom in our farm to run around outside whenever she wishes. I wouldn't want to take that away from her. :)

We do have mayors in England. In London, it's Ken Livingstone, otherwise known as "Red Ken".

Mum wanted to call her Nuka or Nana, I liked Nuka because it was the name of a bear cartoon when I was a child, but mum liked better Nana (which means lullaby in spanish), then she thought about calling her Duna (Dune in spanish), and then Dana, and at last Nana again... So I think Nana is her name, but I cant be sure :D

Daschunds are the sweetest. Is yours black or brown? Some tips: they hate to be left alone, and it's not a good idea to stick their nose in their poo or pee to teach them a lesson (this is what people told me when I got mine) - it traumatizes them and makes them anxious adult dogs.
