Kevin, if you are reading this, DON'T READ FURTHER!!!!

It's Kevin's birthday tomorrow and he is turning 30! I'm taking the day off so we can hang out, go to the movies (he wants to see Charlie and the Neverland Factory), eat, drink and be merry. At night, probably a chocolate cake with his favourite fruit (strawberries.) We had originally planned on going to Hampton Court (year in, year out, this plan ultimately fails) but, because we are doing a daytrip to Dover on the weekend, decided to save our money and stay in London instead.

I wanted to get him an iPod but I couldn't afford it, so I got him a book (The Rough Guide to Cult Fiction) and I'm paying for his activities tomorrow (and perhaps throwing a CD into the mix.) I wish I had planned this earlier, saved some money, because I know how happy he would have been to get an iPod -- I have this image in my head of boxes within boxes, stuffed with newspapers, giftwrapped, and the tiny iPod in its centre. Still, I'm thinking that there's always Christmas, isn't there? Turning 30 is not the end of the world.

This morning, before I left for work, I hugged him and said "enjoy the last day of your 20s." He started laughing/crying like a baby and shaking me, which just made me realize how evil I can be sometimes. I have the knack of saying the most awful things (it's the Scorpio Ascendant in me); it's my sense of humour running away with the baby's bathwater; it's the challenge I leave at people's doorsteps and which is rarely taken in. Sometimes, I'm the most misunderstood wannabe genius in the world.

Finally, I have this strange feeling that if I applied for Big Brother next year, I'd get in!

Oooh apply apply!

If you were my fan and you had to go dressed as "me" to an eviction night, what would you wear?

The Rough Guide to Cult Fiction looks like a great book; now, I want it! Hope you & Kevin have a great day tomorrow...

Thank you! When I saw it hidden away in a corner of the bookstore, I knew I had to have it. :)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-08-02 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I shouldn't apply... :)

I told Kevin all about this post. He loves da gossip.

GET IN! I'll be Craig to your Anthony. Or am I the straight one?

If you are the straight one, you'll be the Jason to my Dan. :)

If I was mincing around the BB house, the viewers would accuse me of being gay. I would have to shag someone to "prove" otherwise.
Actually, this is all getting a bit close to home. I wish I was "allowed" to post the details of my 'Weird Weekend'. :(

Why can't you post it? Do you want my email?

I can't post it 'cos there would be "repercussions". I'd love to trust you with the details, but I can't. Sorry.

oh Ollie!
So evil!
I hated those jokes last year!

Give Kevin a birthday hug for me

Presents and presence

I've been thinking about holidays and gifts myself today Ollie. My wedding anniversary is next week, I see by the calendar. Wondering what to get my husband...for me - it means nothing and we could easily ignore the day but I know him to be sentimental and would be delighted if I acknowledged it (and him) in some special, loving way. I thought I'd never marry, and probably wouldn't have (my four children are products of three different fathers), except I had a scare with a mammogram and it got me thinking about how he would ever manage if anything happened to me before the kids outgrew their need for a mommy. I decided it was simplify things for him greatly, if I did suddenly die unexpectedly, if we were legally married. Custody, benefits, etc. much more accessible and manageable....anyway - what does a 50-something man want for his anniversary that says "I love you and I'm glad we're together?" (Besides the obvious and potentially obscene...) Any ideas?

IPOD's are SO expensive!!!! That's what my 14-year-old daughter wanted for her birthday in April! No WAY!!! It's also a big part of why my sister-in-law hasn't spoken to me in almost a month now...weird...

Oh man, you should SO go on big brother! That would be so much fun I would move to England just to be able to watch it!

Quote-"Turning 30 is not the end of the world."
Thank you for the confirmation, I'll remember that for....*moans painfully*... next year. :(
Indeed there is always Christmas, but if he accidentally reads this, you can dish out the old adage: it is the ipod thought that counts.

I don't own a tv, one of my reasons is to avoid programmes like Big Brother. But if you apply and get in, I may be tempted to tune in or at least ring my sister more, she is a BB addict and would keep me updated with what you got upto in the house.

Have a lovely day tomorrow.

A beret and a Che Guervara styled printed t-shirt with a high-contrast image of Lesley on it, looking revolutionary.

Trousers optional, haven't quite decided if I'd wear any or not.

Happy birthday Kevin.

Thirty was one of my better birthdays, as far as I remember...

Does Kevin LJ?

Is he among your "friends" Ollie?

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
you mean he had to have it, right? *giggle*

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, birthday! Why do I still get excited about birthdays and why are the packges in the foyer never for me? *pout*

My gf's b'day is next month, and like you I don't think I can afford to get her what she really wants and what I really wanna get her. Like you said, there's always x'mas or I can just get it when I can afford it.

So, he's turning 30 first, before u, or me! Wow!!! It's very close, ei?

[identity profile] stupid-wanker06.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
don't go on Big Brother! and I'm sure Kevin will like his present, I read the Rough Guide to Cult Fiction, it's really good.

[identity profile] psyfi.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
My girlfriend's b'day is next month. Like you, I too can't afford to get her what she really wants, and what I really wanna get for her. So, I've got another thing in my head that she might like too. Well....like you said, there's always x'mas, or I can just get her 'the thing' when I can afford to get it.

So, Kevin's turning 30 before you, or me! Wow!!! Ours will be around sooooonn.....

Yeah, I have an MP3 player that I love and I don't have to pay a dollar a song either...it only holds about 20 songs at a time but then again it also only cost me about $40!!! They are out there...fuck the ipod monopoly.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2005-08-03 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
will do! :)

Those jokes will be for me too in a month's time...
