My mom is a big Rod Stewart fan. She even likes his Jazz records.

Mom Unplugged

[identity profile] msanthropist.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
My daughter Erin made me a mix CD with songs that remind her of me. They are mostly songs she remembers hearing me sing while I played my guitar, but others too...she told me once that right after she compiled it she listened to it with her roommate and by the end of it her 6'6" male roommate was sobbing!!! (I laugh and laugh and laugh!)Here is the list:

Don't Cross the River - America
Let It Be Me - Bob Dylan
If I Were a Carpenter - Bobby Darin
Have You Ever Seen the Rain? - Creedence Clearwater Revival
I've Got A Name - Jim Croce
One Tin Soldier - Coven
Father and Son - Cat Stevens
Blackbird - Beatles
Indian Sunset - Elton John
Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? - Carol King
Tell Me Why - Neil Young
If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot
Piano Man - Billy Joel
After the Gold Rush - Neil Young
Sandman - America
Today - John Denver
Miracles - Jefferson Starship
Only the Beginning - Chicago
Rainy Days and Mondays - the Carpenters
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme - Simon & Garfunkel

This list really dates me! Still, I love the memories...in fact, I'm gonna listen to that mix right now!!! Thanks Ollie...

I`ll try to download these songs and have the mix too!

That's so cute Erin's roomate cried... he must have been reminded of songs his mom played to him.

My mom listened to these songs, and others, in the car when she drove my brother and I around. She'd listen to them while waiting for us to finish our extra-curricular stuff in the afternoons, or when we were travelling. She likes humming them around the house too.

2. Just the Way You Are, by Billy Joel

Pete sent me this song when I was nervous and a little insecure about our relationship in the beginning-

Then he took me out and we made up. :)

I feel all warm and fuzzy now.

I'm glad! I heard it today in my work's cafeteria and it immediatly reminded me of my mom. It was because of this song that I wrote this post.

Is it really bad that I have *ALL* of Billy Joel's albums? I know I've just lost a lot of goth points by admitting that, but I absolutely love him. He's the best 'pop' songwriter I can think of.

*picks jaw from the floor*

Wow! I'm really surprised! :)

Is it because he was the soundtrack to your childhood, because of your parents, or because you simply like the music? I really like some of his songs, but there are others that grate on me -- though I have to confess that I hardly know his stuff.

I found him quite late in life actually.. Never really listened to him as a child, nor did my parents. I discovered "52nd Street" in a second hand shop when I was about 16 and liked the cover. Thought he looked sleazy in his cheap suit and afro, so figured it might be a good listen. It was. I never looked back!

I'm curious now... I really can't imagine what his records must sound like!

Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head, by Burt Bacharach --- this is one of my very favoritest songs ever ever ever, and I often sing it.

I sing it too, like today, when raindrops are really falling on my head.
