Fire in London

We can see the smoke from our office.

I hope they manage to get it under control soon.

Update: Seems to be under control, or gone. It rained and there is no more smoke. Also, the pesky news helicopters have buggered off.

Despite the immense rage I am currently in, I can assure you that for once I had nothing to do with it! I have an alibi, you know! ;-)

However, if the fire were coming from Southwark...

[identity profile] sparklielizard.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It still wouldn't be me! I'm working from home today.. okay "working" - given I can't get my work computer to access the Internet and thus can't access anything work-related :-( I'm gonna be in a lot of trouble tomorrow as a result, so I dare say something will be on fire in Southwark.. me burning things at the injustice of it all!

take care

There was a downpour and the smoke is gone. I think I saw a giant finger poking from the sky.

Oh, wow. That doesn't look good. I'll hope for the best.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's under control (at least I'm pressuming that since I can't see any more smoke.)

[identity profile] greenteablack.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy shit. Is that building close to you or is there just so much smoke you can see it a good distance?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It's across the river, but close enough for us to see the smoke. However, it seems to now be under control.

I am in Mayfair and I tried looking out the window and couldn't see anything but we could smell a bit of burning.

Someone I know in the ENO said the same thing. But there's no more cloud now, so I'm assuming everything is ok.

[identity profile] madwriter.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
What actual building was (is) on fire?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems to be the one just beside the Royal Academy of Arts. I don't know which building though. I just checked the BBC's website and there is no update on the story.

Hope it goes out sooon.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Everything seems fine now.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medium_/ 2006-08-29 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY! Hope it stays that way. ♥

I hope everyone was safe, that is most important.
But, I must admit I am worried for the lovely items for sale in Picadilly that may possibly smell like smoke, and thus possibly ruined. Is that wrong?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You can rest in peace; the lovely items in Picadilly are safe... for now.

From now on you should only read my journal with The Smiths as soundtrack.
