The Lost Postcard

"A postcard has been read for the first time since it was sent more than a century ago. It was found by architect Kerrin Lyons and his wife Ginny in an old front door they had taken off its hinges while renovating their house in Thornton Hill, Exeter. The card had been sent in 1896. It is thought it fell through a gap in the door and stayed there for 110 years."

From The Observer

What do you think was written on the postcard?

What do you think was written on the postcard?

"Dearest Edwina: I remain in Brighton, waiting for some answer from you as to whether to continue our lives together. Please write to me, one way or the other ... even a negative answer would be better than this silence. I hope this finds you well in any case. I love you, Freddie."

Dearest Ethel

Mafekin is lovely this time of year, although the damn natives are getting restless. Please ask that nice Prime Minister chappy to send more troops as I fear we may soon be under siege.

Yours

My darling Gertrude,

I have been enjoying my time here in Sikkim, employing the native children to kill for me the most beautiful birds on God's green Earth in the name of science. I hope to have the largest single collection of specimens in the world, or at least in all of Ireland, so that I will live on in the minds of the people as that spirited old chap who went to India with a single suitcase and returned with thousands of birds. I will make sure to set aside a bird of paradise for you, as I know how you love your fancy hats. Would you like a living one, to perch inside a cage atop your head, or a stuffed one to nestle into your locks? Never you mind - I will bring one of each!

I must dash, my sweet. Scientific duty awaits. Send my love to your mother and father, and inform them that I will be visiting you in Exeter as soon as I can find the time away from Dublin after my return. I look forward to sharing stories of my travels, and believe I have a few that will produce a titter or two.

Yours always,

Valentine Ball

"Try to take a little better care of this postcard than the last one, which I understand that you dropped on the way home from the shops. And don't forget to get that big crack in the door fixed soon."

Don't tell me about postcards... I still need to send you one! *blushes*
Perhaps is written "I know what you did. It makes me sick. I'm going to tell." And on the back "Prepare to burn, witch!"
