Se as Meninas do Leblon Não Olham mais pra Mim

I wore my glasses to the gym last night, for the first time in my life. I was expecting everyone to stop what they were doing, point at me and sing in unisom: "You are wearing glasses! You are wearing glasses!" But nobody cared, nobody gave me a second glance. It's strange lying on a mat, doing stretches while wearing glasses; and I had to take them off to run on the treadmill; but it was absolutely fine when it came to lifting weights.

The gym continues to be empty in the evenings, despite the end of Ramadan. A lot of people must feel discouraged when the temperature drops.

I'm waiting for our gym dropoff to occur. It's a nightmare at the moment with all the eager new students and that's only going to get worse for the next few months as more and more register... They should be at lectures or something... Although i suspect the novelty will have worn off for most of them by christmas.

I see people getting tours and inductions all the time, but they never seem to actually show up for any work outs. I'm hoping it stays that way. When I first joined, there were so many guys (the kind that bypass any warm up/stretching and go straight for the bench press) who'd just mill around the weights and machines, leaving nothing for the rest of us.

People generally don't like going to and coming back from the gym in the dark as well. Especially if using public transport!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-10-26 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the dark plus the cold weather which makes everyone feel less bothered, I think.

Yes I get very self conscious in the gym still. I used to be absolutely terrified that everyone really was watching my every move on each machine, etc but actually they couldn't care less. I do still feel like a twat when I muck up on something - but then I've looked over before in the past and everyone does the same. We're all human - well excluding the gym bunnies because they're just scary!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-10-26 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I've noticed a few people (mostly guys) who are gym bunnies -- friends with the staff, always there, etc., but they don't bother me. I sometimes watch them from the corner of my eyes because I'm curious as to what kind of programme they have; but most of them don't seem to do any stretching or warm up, which makes me think they don't really know what they are doing.

Casp mentioned once your gym was in Canary Wharf? Did you guys ever check out the Mile End leisure centre as a potential place to join?

We do keep meaning to but alas we're still in Canary Wharf Gym at the moment. Though we are going to check it out soon honest ;o)

I'm the other way around ... the colder it is... the more I want to work out. If I had to wear glasses to the gym I'd so break them without even trying.

I don't mind the weather either way, though I do prefer the summer -- I feel more motivated and energetic. When it's rainy, cold, dark and depressing outside, I tend to feel like curling under a blanket with a good book.

Back home it doesn't really matter it's hot but dry. The humidity here drives me crazy I just want to close all the windows turn up the air co. and chill.

Men in glasses are sexy.

I've been totally discouraged since the colder weather has started here. I keep thinking I'll go to the gym but then I sit on the couch and eat soup.

Here's a sexy guy for you...

I've joined my gym with a friend, and that has helped to keep my motivation up. I'm not sure I'd stick to it without her, to be honest.

YUM! I gotta get me some of that sweet sweet candy!!

Yeah I wish I had someone to go with but none of my friends are gym people.

What about Rob? You guys could be gym buddies, non?

I don't know if Rob has ever been to a gym in his life. He's one of those naturally thin people. Although I'm sure a trip to the gym wouldn't hurt his social life any

I would have sung a glasses song to you. Of course, it would have been in Japanese and would have been the dorkiest thing you'd ever heard in your life, but hey - at least I'd have noticed.

Also, I prefer to work out in the cooler weather as I really do dislike sweating quite a bit.

And apparently you live quite close to a friend of mine. Even more interesting is that the two of you are similar in many ways. I love the intarwebs.

hmmmm... who is this friend of yours? Sounds intriguing. :-)
