*High Five*

If there was any justice in this world, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan would win the Oscar of Best Picture.

I can't remember the last time I watched something so funny. Hands down the best movie of 2006.

[identity profile] hervoice.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I really want to see that movie :)

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
glad you liked it!

so many funny bits....oh jesus)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
I can't believe some of the shit he pulled off. He's got a lot of guts.

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
i know!!!!
oh man.... one of the best bits, was when he went to that dinner, and the bag of shit

*LOL*

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I love his visit to the Jewish B&B. ;-)

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
that one made me sad...that couple were so sweet!
(it was funny though, but I kept going, "awwww"...especially when they bring up the food for them to eat.

"the jews have changed shape!!!"
(the cockroach part, where they are tossing money at the cockroaches before running out)

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
omg seriously! the whole audience was almost upset at him, hoping he wouldn't mess with them too much. hopefully, if they see it, they'll understand who he is and what he's doing.

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
i hope so!
Cause that was the sweetest couple, I just wanted to give them both a big hug.
(not to mention, her paintings were awesome!)

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know! Awww, she brought them cake!

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
and then the cockroaches....
oh man!
I hope they didn't wind up infesting their lovely bed and breakfast!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
And the part he's talking to the camera as if he's in the Blair Witch Project. :-P

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, that rocked!

*LOL*

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I still can't believe he pulled that stunt at the book signing. :-D

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
that's the one thing that was sort of staged.
she knew something was coming, but not exactly what

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The editing was amazing through out because a few things, I think, were staged; but you never get the feeling it's phoney, which shows how good they are at comedy.

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
exactly...and i really admire how Sacha can stay in character, without cracking up...even on da ali g show, season 2, there is a borat sketch, where he gets drunk, and doesn't break character while trashed

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
He seems to have got trashed with those frat boys, and that must have been hard not to crack up. I love the look on the fat guy's face when he starts to cry over "CJ".

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
and of course, you've ehard by nopw, that those frat boys are trying to sue Borat....whatever!!!!!
Just because they got caught being the asses they so obviously are.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard someone was trying to sue him, but I thought it was the guy who ate the cheese made from his wife's milk!! LOL. Those guys were complete jerks -- that movie probably ruined their love lives for the next 50 years... and deservedly so.

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
i doubt they had love lives to begin with, especially the fat dude.
oh man...the expression on the guys face when Borat tells him the cheese is made from breast milk, was priceless!

[identity profile] kenoster.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to say that I don't think I ever laughed so much in a theatre.

I had never even seen Ali G. so it was a huge and pleasant surprise.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
From what I hear, Ali G the Movie is not that funny... but this movie, oh god -- I was laughing the day afterwards just remembering it.

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, the Ali G movie is really not that good. (I own it...got it as an xmas gift a few years ago) it is almost hard to believe that both films were done by the same man.... ooooh, Sacha...he is a genius!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's hope his next one, about Bruno, is just as funny.

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
i am looking forward to that one as well, as Bruno is another of my fave characters (hell, I love them all)

Borat

[identity profile] noondaydemon.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting.... I'm keen to see it now that YOU'VE given it the thumbs up!

Re: Borat

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, if you are ever in need of laughing for a couple of hours, go see it.

[identity profile] theyare45.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
whoa, really? i haven't seen it because the [American] trailer, i find sooo annoying. what little i've seen struck me as extremely similar to, say, American comedy about 'rednecks', just with the pronouns changed and the accent altered. i just remember thinking 'easy targets: ick!' but hmm, 'm interested too^ now that you like it. maybe i will pick up one of those $5 bootleg dvd's on Canal St...

xo, math+

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
Based on the trailer, I thought it would be the kind of movie where the gags get tired, where it's all a bit "Jackass". But it's actually a very clever satire, dressed almost like a fairytale (as Kevin would put it). Plus, it's just bizarre some of the things that happen to him, and that he does -- you never see any of it coming, which makes for a very unpredictable and hilarious movie.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
oh god, the naked! the balls still haunt me this morning (just saw it last night). and I love how the black bar for his pene was so long and they swung it around a bunch. AHAHAHAHAHAA!!!

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
*LOL*

"my moustache still smells of your testes"

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
that was the only part that grossed me out the whole movie...
i really didn't need to see someone so fat, so naked

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
His friend, on the other hand, didn't need a black bar at all...

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I know!! I was like, look, does the man not have a penis?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe he was a drag king?

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
He did have huge tits! but then there were balls.

[identity profile] blu-bear.livejournal.com 2006-11-14 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I can't stand Borat.. I know it's supposed to be making fun but I just find it out right offensive. He pushes things a bit too far I think. But maybe I just take it too seriously.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-14 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
He's goal is not to hurt anyone, but to bring down the masks they carry and show what might be underneath them. Many people have said that the Americans in the movie come out quite well because despite being faced with an idiot, they never lose their composure and they are polite to him until the end (probably a thousand times more polite than a British person would be if confronted with a similar nutter.)

I never saw the TV show but this movie was incredibly funny.

[identity profile] vespatine78.livejournal.com 2006-11-20 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I refuse to see it

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
It looks bad, but it's something else.

[identity profile] vespatine78.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah. I don't know. I like sort of uncomfortable movies, but that one looks like it will be too much.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It's true: I cringed at some bits and had to hide underneath my sweater. And I know people walked out in the beginning (though not in my theatre). But to me, it's a clever satire that shows people's true colours underneath the masks they carry (plus it's just silly.) :-)

Hey babe, I've been meaning to ask you what kind of music you are listening to now. xoxo

[identity profile] vespatine78.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
hmm I have been listening to a lot of northern soul, and rocksteady (no different then usual) but I have discovered a lot of new bands (well new to me, but from the 60's and 70's).

I actually can send you a couple of fantastic cds that I made if you are interested?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here. I just bought a CD yesterday, from this new band called The Long Blondes, and I think you might like some of their songs! One song makes me think of you. :-)
