Ask

Questions I'd like answered today:

  • Why do so many powerful men prefer brasilian lovers? Recent examples: Peter Mandelson, Judge Mohammed Ilyas Khan and various top brass at Volkswagen.
  • Why do they keep finding headless bodies in the Thames?
  • Why is Jarvis Cocker's line up for this year's Meltdown Festival so disappointing?
  • Why doesn't Livejournal give us the power to remove people from our "friend of" list? (It would certainly bring back much needed Drama to Livejournal.)
  • Why is everyone joining Facebook? Haven't they learnt anything from Friendster a few years back?

I want to know how many people have been stupid enough to give facebook their email password as asked for here
https://register.facebook.com/findfriends.php
....... not that i think they are dodgy, but still, bad security!

Darling, like you need to ASK?

Why doesn't Livejournal give us the power to remove people from our "friend of" list?

I have my profile configured so it only shows my friends and my mutual friends. So no strange interlopers appear.

If you ban someone from your LJ it then removes them from your friends of list, but it's a bit extreme. Personally I don't know why people really care about the whole friends of thing, cause it's just people who friended you, not who you say you're friends with, iyswim.

What's Cocker's line up for Meltdown?

And obviously Brasilians Do It Best ;)

[identity profile] sushidog.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
How do you do that, out of interest?

[identity profile] moral-vacuum.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
Manage, Info, and scroll down to the bottom. Two tick boxes - one for show mutual friends, one for show people who have friended me. "Untick" the second one.

I'm not bothered who adds me, but I would quite like to be able to remove people from my "friends of" if I really object to them. But I think banning them would cause drama, and only showing mutual friends would mean I miss out on seeing if new people have friended me.

hey

yeah, what is with facebook all of a sudden? LJ, Myspace - how many online communities do we really need to be a part of

why DO they keep finding headless bodies in the Thames??? that's a bit odd and disturbing. to make it harder to identify the body? a characterisic of ritual killings? my imagination is running away with me...

that probably doesn't help does it?

Yes, I have mine configured that way too.

merci

I had been under the impression that if you ban someone, it only stops them from adding you in case they remove themselves and try to return again or if they wish to comment. Cheers. :-)

I have that configuration too. I have dozens of dead journals attached to mine which I'd like to remove, so this whole "banning" option solves that problem.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't heard any of Jarvis' solo material. He's the organizer of a festival here in London this summer but I'm not too excited by the bands and musicians he chose.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish to remove the many dead journals lying around, as well as the one or two fake/troll journals that have added me. It's more a case of aesthetically not wanting to see them there when I check my profile. I won't ban any regular journals.

The latest headless body is from a Chinese student. Lately, young people seem to be getting a rough deal in London.

[identity profile] greenteablack.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
They keep finding headless bodies in the Thames??? My goodness, that's not good.

That Meltdown line up is rather lame. There are a few half decent acts on it but they're hardly the majority. Maybe everyone else is doing other things this summer.

Everyone is joining Facebook because they want to see what the big deal is and the secret is that there is no big deal. If you want to see what the guy who sat next to you in grade 1 is doing you can find him there and see what he's been doing for the last 25 years that you didn't bother to look him up. It's just strange and frightening

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Or myspace now? I'm thinking of just kinda letting my myspace page go fallow and joining Vox. It's music-based and seems much better.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you hear or see that electric duo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relaxed_Muscle) he formed a few years back? It must have been fantastic when everyone figured it out!

[identity profile] strange.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, you're wrong. Facebook is the new MySpace. MySpace has gone to crap recently.

Another site, another username, another password...

I actually really like Facebook. My roommate and I send each other silly messages all the time; we work opposite hours so it's almost the only way we can communicate!

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yah, I know, but it allows you to post music tracks! And, if I'm correct that you can integrate it with LJ, then I might just do it!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
What went wrong with MySpace recently? I thought it was always a bit crap because of its excessive use of advertisement.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I've grown a bit weary of having so many accounts - Flickr, MySpace, Livejournal, and so forth - that any new site just seems like a hassle to me. Also, most people at my work are on Facebook, so it would definitely suck me in and add hours to my daily computer use, which I'm trying to cut down. But I can see how good it would be if you had a close friend on it.

The only sites I use on a daily basis these days are Gmail, LJ, the Guardian, and Facebook. For the most part the internet has lost its appeal.
