The Great Paperback Swap

I'm participating in the Great Paperback Swap. You mail a paperback and get thirty six sent back to you! It's a kind of pyramid scheme, involving six friends and names on lists.

I just received my first paperback: Snow Falling on Cedars, by David Guterson. Sadly, I don't know who mailed it to me! It was mailed here in the UK.

Has anyone ever participated in the Great Paperback Swap before? If you did, how did it go?

Peter Snow was once in a minor plane crash into a cedar forest. So far so "life imitating art". But this was also the same forest that inspired the book title.

I'm trying to get shot of my paperbacks....De Niro in 'Cape Fear' : "Ah already read 'em".

Any paperbacks sent to me that I don't need/want, I'll give to charity.

i'm excited for this to work, but i get the feeling that at least two of the six i sent it to have already forgotten and crapped out on it. as for me, i'm sending off my book within the next three days; this weekend was a busy one and so was this week. bleh.
get anything else yet?

Just that one. My co-worker has received two which, in her words, is "200% better" than the last time she tried it. ;-)

The secret for this to work, in my opinion, is to target friends who love books.

well, up that to 300% since i just sent one off.

that's the thing: i totally targeted book-luvvahs. still no luck. guess i just have a bunch of book-lovin' slacker friends. we'll see. maybe somebody will pick it up. and if a frog had wings...

People have lost their love for the post office.

ooh! that sounds like a basket of fun.

You should ask [livejournal.com profile] beeorkendurkey to send you the document, since a couple of her friends have chickened out.

I didn't even know about "the great paperback swap", but reading about it makes me wish it would exist something like that on Spain. :(

So, you got Guterson book... and what did you sent?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-06-12 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sending Siri Hustvedt's The Blindfold (she's Paul Auster's wife.)

You could always start something like that in Spain. If you want, send me your e-mail and I'll forward you the document.

OMG!! I'm involved on so many projects that I can't even think about starting another one!! And the worst part is that those projects keep me away from what I really want to do: to write!! :(

I've been long of the livejournal world for a while. Tell me: are you still writing?? How i is going? :D

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-06-12 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, still writing. What projects are you up to? :-)

[identity profile] gorecky22.livejournal.com 2007-06-12 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... I'm just writing in a magazine (interviews and that stuff, always about music), and in a web-site. So I end up many night writting those articles and not the fiction I wanna write. :P

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-06-12 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean. I spend all day at work, unable to work on my fiction, so I only have the night time to do it... but many times I'm too tired, or I go out, so I end up neglecting my writing.
