When I was Eighteen

18 years old

I loved mix tapes when I was in high school. I'd make them for the bus trip to school, or for my bedroom at night, when everyone was asleep and all I could see from my window were the distant ships circling Hong Kong. I spent a lot of time with them, and I started to believe eventually that they were a part of me. I was part of the last mix tape generation.

My 18-year-old essence captured on tape:

Morrissey - Everyday is Like Sunday
Belly - Feed the Tree
One Dove - White Love
Blind Melon - No Rain
The Cure - In Between Days
James - Sometimes
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Dear Prudence
Erasure - Oh L'Amour
Cocteau Twins - Bluebeard
Blur - Clover Over Dover
Suede - Animal Nitrate
The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
The Breeders - Cannonball
Shed Seven - Mark

LOL. You are just saying that because I look like a country girl in that photo.

Nothing girly about it. That jaw line is hot hot hot. I mean, I'm happily taken as are you, I don't mean this as a flirtatious thing, just a piece of truth.

Awww, well thanks. I didn't mean to imply you were flirting with me either. :-)

But this photo was taken 14 years ago... (how time flies).

Oh damn, so I would've been in debauchery phase and everything. >_>

I still have some old mix tapes too. Ha!

What bands or singers did you listen to when you were 18?

[identity profile] vrax.livejournal.com 2007-11-06 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
See I'm much more a techno guy, so there's not a lot of lyrical music that I enjoy. Hmm. Back then I listed to a lot of angry shit. NiN, Ministry, um.....My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, uh... Godflesh, Front 242, Frontline Assembly.

That's all I can think of right now.

I remember quite a few boys in my high school being into techno at the time. Some of my friends were heavely into NiN and Ministry - and they were all chicks. :-)

I'm still into techno, Amon Tobin is my favorite musical artist. [livejournal.com profile] desayuno_ingles can attest to his genius.

I like him too! I actually saw him play Montreal in the late 90s, when I lived there. ;-)

You know, I haven't thought of him in a while! Do you know what he's up to? Is he still Djing or putting out CDs?

[identity profile] vrax.livejournal.com 2007-11-06 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah he put out an album called Foley Room in uh...april? I think it was april, might've been may or march. But he's still at it. That album is incredible, too. Hard to say if it's his best work, because it still has that hit-miss element of all his albums. Tracks 1-2-4-8-10-12 are super-OMG-amazing genius. 5-7 kinda suck and are boring. 3, 9 & 11 are ok.

Check it out if you get a chance.

I will do. Thanks!
