End of the Week Points and Notes

* Kevin got a viral infection at the start of the week and now, just as he got better, a cold settled in his chest. It's freezin' and 'orrible outside and we have no money. The apartment is a tip and there's no getting away from the fact I'll have to clean it today, by myself. I very much expect this guy to show up Monday night.

* I got all tarted up for the gym this morning, only to arrive and discover they are shut down for a training day. So I went to Woolworths instead.

* I've worked for the last five weeks in a prestigious university's press office. It was one of my best working experiences: everyone was kind and friendly, the work was interesting and yesterday's goodbyes were genuinely full of good wishes. I have a job interview in the new year for a job I really, really want, with a small charity that works with gays, lesbians and transexuals. And they pay good. And I have a few days off during the week which I can use for my writing or temp work. Fingers crossed I don't fuck up.

* Russell Brand is going to be in Morrissey's next music video. I hope Morrissey gets his thugs band to hold him down and shave that awful hair of his.

* I love crazy cults, in particular American ones. They always seem to twist the Bible into something a lot worse than it is. Don't you just love their brain-washed stares? The old leaders who sleep with pre-pubescent virgins in the name of the Lord? Channel 4's documentary The End of World Cult was an unmissable, terrifying and sad story of people with no education, in the middle of nowhere, who make me all the more thankful I'm not a religious person.

* My last meal in death row will consist of freshly-baked bread, salty butter and a cup of coffee with milk and two sugars.

Maybe they could strip him off those tight black jeans and then whip him with it.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I followed the link but then got lost in a flurry of other links and didn't bother to look up who Russell Brand is. The Sun - wow, that's a pile of crap, now isn't it?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The Sun, The Daily Star, The Daily Mirror, The Daily Sport... we've got tons of classy tabloids over here. ;-)

Fingers crossed for you getting that job and Kevin getting well soon.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheers E.

And speaking of cults!

Religion is fascinating. As are the poor bastards who allow it to control their lives.

We could eat our death row dinner together because that's precisely what I'd want, too.

It's been kind of a crappy season. I hope things start sucking less very soon. ♥

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
2008 will be less crappy. I can feel it in my bones.

When I lived with housemates, we drew up a chart and put it on the fridge. Then people knew when it was their turn and what they had to do.

All the best on these holidays to you too!

[identity profile] icymorning.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)

Sounds like me. Except I do sometimes dodge the gym to go to Woolworths even if the gym's open.

Televangelism is an ongoing source of entertainement for me.

Oh, so you watch a lot of Fox News?

Come temp at the Guardian!

Though you're probably way over qualified for the job.. As you can see I'm off me feet busy here with livejournal and facebook heh. So what's this charity do to the gays then?

And your last meal is rubbish. Not even any accompanying condoments? And no one wants to die with coffee breath.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll tell you more about the charity if I get the job! Don't want to count my luck too quickly since I haven't even met them.

I'd love to work for the Guardian. If you ever escalate the ladder over there, keep me in mind as a potential PA for you. :-)

Yes, you saw exactly what you were supposed to see — "an unmissable, terrifying and sad story of people with no education, in the middle of nowhere." Poor victimized brainwashed folks ...

First question? How do you know?

With all due respect, you might want to educate yourself as to how your mind plays tricks on you; on how the media has a certain slant in their stories that is planned for you to take into yourself producing a certain reaction; on how you are manipulated by media in all it's forms to produce a desired effect on and in you with the purpose of using you to make money for others; on how what spirit a person has in themselves makes them see through those glasses whether you are religious or not.

In other words you're being used. We all get used by whatever spirit is in us.

Just a thought (more education) http://www.strongcity.info/
just in case you wanted to see what really happened.

Regards,

How do I know?

Well, let's see: the cult expected the world to end on the 31st of October. It didn't. Michael, the leader, then said the world would end on the 15th of December. It didn't.

Two teenage girls admitted on camera that they laid naked with the leader in his bed (which he also confirmed) - a highly inappropriate thing to do, don't you think? Then the leader and his daughter-in-law admitted that they had sex. His son looked devastated...

Does it get anymore dodgy?

What will it take for those people to realize Michael has fooled them?

Russell Brand sez
'Roll up your sleeves and get to it boy'!

(also 'get well K')

I was about to comment and then I read the above comments and thought, "Ollie's friends are all so lovely and English." That, or course, made me feel my American-ness, which I hate.

The Evangelicals get a lot less entertaining when you live here. I was raised by them before I escaped to Seattle and then New York. I'm from rural Kentucky (shh-- don't tell) and some of my earliest memories are of my relatives writhing around on the floor and speaking in tongues.

I, of course, have severe anger issues when it comes to religion and am a devout atheist.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I've told you before: we've got a pull out couch anytime you wish to escape and come live over here. ;-)

Did your boy have a good time over here, by the way?

[identity profile] dilvsy.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
awww, poor Kevin! I hope he gets better soon!

And wow to that crazy cult member who has been commenting. I see they created their journal today...wrath of the cults!!!!

Be careful, before the Jehovah's Witnesses come knocing on your door now too

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I live in a fortress that doesn't allow the entrance of Jehovah's Witnesses... ah, bliss!

Hahahaha, I like (what I've seen of) Russell Brand.
But I've only ever seen him on Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2006 so...

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
He's pretty much everywhere over here, and his presence has worn thin. But I must admit he was very funny on Have I Got News For You recently.

[identity profile] sparkx.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
So you got tarted up for Woolies ;o) Claaassy heheh.

I've got that virus at the moment. It's horrible :o(

The bread we traditionally call French Bakery Bread (http://ziluka.weblogger.terra.com.br/img/pao.jpg) in Brasil. You can buy it at any street corner bakery, it's very cheap... and oh so good when done well!
