Tentacle Faces

tentacle face

It's a small town, with a dwindling population. You could say it's at the edge of civilization, fast disappearing. Most of its inhabitants live in an apartment complex that lines the town's main street. The residents take me in as if I were family, a lost son returning home. And at their apartment complex, I learn of the creatures responsible for the town's destruction.

Once in a while, these creatures walk through the town. Their black clothes match the colour of the tubes that spring out of their face and wiggle in the air. They sense movement and scent through their tubes; they never speak. When they arrive, everyone must close their eyes and not pay attention to them. If you ignore them successfully, they leave you alone. If you open your eyes and stare, they take you away.

I close my eyes and try to count numbers when the creatures arrive. A white light grows inside of me and, later, I learn I'm the first person to repel one of the creature's that way. I leave the town and find their hideaway. Kidnapped townsfolk are kept in prison cells. I free them.

I keep getting better at closing my eyes and ignoring them.

Ah... I love the sound of British Sea Power... that track's a particular favourite.

If you did develop uncanny powers to repell unearthly creatures I hope you'd only use it for good.

British Sea Power have a distinct 80s indie sound that I love. Kinda Psychedelic Furs, that track. I will buy some of their music during boxing sales. :-)

They're playing at Koko in January. Should be a good one.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-12-23 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't be surprised if it's sold out already. :-/

Koko is a great venue.

[identity profile] steer.livejournal.com 2007-12-23 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never been to Koko... still, I am looking forward to it.

Great dream, and I really like the picture! Where did you find the original?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-12-23 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I found it searching "tentacles horror" or something like that on Google Images. I then rotated the canvas (the original has the tentacles dangling down.)

ooh, good idea. I liked especially that they went sideways. not b/c of the tentacle faces, but b/c it just looks nice like that.

P.S.

If you're so excited about BSP, please include them on the mp3 cd?

I only have the one song I downloaded from the net. Once I get their album, I'll include them in the MEGA PACKAGE to you. :-)

Woohoo! *waves fists happily*

What's the recording rate you want again? It's higher than 192 isn't it?

Re: P.S.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2007-12-24 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
256 is wonderful. check the bit that asks if you want variable bit rate.

Re: P.S.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2007-12-24 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That's best for you, too. That way it doesn't squash the levels at one particular bit rate.

Re: P.S.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-01-09 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, i'm pretty sure I've changed it to 256 and now I'm going to start uploading stuff. It says 128 for mono though, but it's on auto recognition so I'm assuming that will make it stick to 256 for stereo, right?

I'm still new to this whole iTunes business. :-)

Um, you have to tell it what to import at.

iTunes tab>Preferences>Advanced>Importing>
Import Using: MP3 Encoder
Setting: Custom: 256

Channels: Auto

I think that should be good. Yay, music!

Re: P.S.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-01-09 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, that's what it says.

So this is what I have so far:

Air - Talkie Walkie
Patrick Wolf - The Magic Position
CD86 1 & 2 - compilation of indie music from the 80s
The Dears - Gang of Losers
U2 - Rattle & Hum, The Joshua Tree, War and The Unforgettable Fire
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Lou Reed - Transformer

Let me know which one of these you don't want, and if you wish anything else added.

Oh, give me some really early Siouxie Sioux. Like from the late 70s early 80s when they were all punk, if you have it.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2008-01-11 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
And do you have Bloc Party? I seem to have lost friend.

Re: P.S.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2008-01-11 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, no Bloc Party. But, but, but... I'm getting the NEW Magnetic Fields!!!!!! I've already heard some of its songs and its brilliant. And I'm very tempted to get the new British Sea Power (its getting very good reviews over here), in which case I'll add that too.

Yes! We have only their second album, but it's a good one.

[identity profile] sallypointzero.livejournal.com 2007-12-23 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yikes! I'm SEEING those creatures....

You're a devastating exponent of Less is More, Olly m'dear (shortened version!)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2007-12-23 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
They were terrifying... it was horrible having to sit with my eyes closed, trying to ignore their presence as they walked past us.

[identity profile] sallypointzero.livejournal.com 2007-12-23 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooohhhh "as they walked past' :-((
I'd be like Heather...
"I'm too scared to close my eyes...I'm too scared to open them"

[identity profile] naturalbornkaos.livejournal.com 2007-12-24 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! You freed the townsfolk! :D
