Little Ms Music Mogul

For all of you peeps anxious about the American election, hoping to distract yourselves into the early hours without combusting or going insane, I've got some entertainment for you... my very own record store! That's right, I just opened an online record store (unsurprisingly) named:

This is a new site - sort of like Livejournal in its infancy - where each user creates their own record store, adding songs or albums they can sell to friends and strangers. The way it works is that for every track you sell, you get points to download a track for yourself. Same goes for albums.

Because it's a new site, they still don't have that many artists on board. But they have The Magnetic Fields, so it can't be all that bad, can it? If you happen to be in a band, you should think about dropping them an e-mail. I'll happilly pimp your tracks in my store if you want. And if you decide to open your own record store, let me know so I can go browse your selection.

But in the meantime, go do some shopping and help kickstart the world economy. You know that's exactly what Obama would want you to do. ;-)

You should set up a shop beside mine! I'm sure we can come to some agreement about which genres we'll specialize in. And we can always swap customers too. And we can by songs from each other if trade is slow. ;-)

i am now sure about how it works, what do you mean by "sell"?

In essence, you become the seller, the person in charge of creating interest on the track or the album.

For example, you join the site and create your record store. You then place on your shelf a song by Geneva which I've never heard of. I go to your store and buy the song from you (0.99pence out of my bank account). This gives you points. Once you add up enough points, you can download a song to your iTunes (or equivalent system) for free.

It's still a new site so there aren't many people or artists on it. But the idea is that as it grows, and more and more people join, friends can buy from each others shops and encourage the support of indie labels as well as the discovery of new music. :-)

Cool. Let me know the name of your store once it's set up. I'll be curious to see what kind of music you pick for your collection.
