Your Lovely Eek and Your Lovely Riah

I have inspired a gay porn star to start a bookclub (NSFW) for his fans, a la Oprah Winfrey. His first choice is Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy.

If you see anonymous comments over here from disgruntled porn fans who'd rather tootsie trade than read, you'll know why.

Ooh, he's bold

Your dolly eek, surely?

Yes, you dolly bibi.

Haha that's cool...
Ollie, you do inspire thousands of people all around the world every day, don't you?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Only the ones who like books! ;-)

Off topic, but your icon, "Xander", looks a lot like my friend R would have a few years back :)

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's him!? You wouldn't know if R ever posed for a German photographer?

Dunno, I'll have to ask :)

I have inspired a gay porn star to start a bookclub.

This is my favourite sentence of the day.

[identity profile] amberholic.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You are officially the book club muse!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Not as big as you though! I still haven't mustered the power to encourange hundreds of men to join... ;-)

[identity profile] amberholic.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
You gave me the idea though!

That's it, I'm giving you an official title in my book club!

[identity profile] sbeth76.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I sincerely hope that lots of pornaholics come over and comment. That was so incredibly NSFW (thanks for the warning). It may have even been NSFH. I haven't been exposed to much gay porn but how intriguing...

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, this journal could definitely do with a surge of pornaholic readers.

[identity profile] sbeth76.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been trying to determine why the gay porn was so shocking and it's really not the man-on-man action (I love boys kissing) - it was the lack of pubic hair. I am not used to seeing men without pubic hair, as none of my lovers have been into shaving their business...

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The gay scene is divided into segments that fetishize different things - I think his falls under the "smooth", "muscular" and "young" part. If you do a Google on Gay Bears, you'll see plenty of men with hairy bushes. :-)

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
well, isn't that awesome?!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Now i need to get a copy of the book.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I just don't want to read any more Cormack McCarthy. I know you said that you think he's optimistic but I couldn't see The Road that way. There was no hope, just a delay in the death sentence. I would see the movie at least once, though.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe the hope in The Road was a form of denial of their reality I suppose - they needed something to keep going even as the world fell apart.

Perhaps it's better to tackle McCarthy in the warm seasons than in the darker ones!

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Good thought! I can't remember when I read it. You sent it to me, if I remember correctly? Or maybe I bought it b/c you rec'd it.

Dude! I'm buying a wheelset for £150! I know that doesn't mean much of anything for you but I'm super excited.

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Wheels for my bike. Wheelset indicates it's got hubs (central thingy), spokes & rims.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Mason Wyler, the porn star linked in this post, had one of his biggest successes in "Spokes 3". There's a scene in there where he gets gangbanged by a group of cyclists. Maybe you and Aram could watch it with the guys from the forum?

[identity profile] desayuno-ingles.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha!! Too funny.

And *sniffle* it turns out I'm probably not buying the wheels. *sigh* I hate that there is so much detailed information I have to know in order to buy the smallest mechanical thing for a bike, yet if I don't grab something right away someone else will grab it. So now I've told a guy I'll pick up the wheels but after I did that one of the other members, who originally told me it would be what I need, looked further and realized they are not quite right for me.

Argh! :)

[identity profile] msanthropist.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I swear I'm not being deliberately obtuse, but what does "tootsie trade" mean? It brings to mind one of two possibilities, and I shudder to think of the scatalogical implications of the one - too gross to consider it could actually seem appealing to anyone - much like the Cleveland Steamer...*shivers in revulsion*

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Tootsie trade, sex between two passive homosexuals (as in: 'I don't do tootsie trade'). It comes from Polari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polari), a form of language developed by gays in Britain when homosexuality was illegal so that they could identify each other in conversation without raising suspicion.

[identity profile] msanthropist.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
AWESOME!!! It's like having my own interpretation guide to "A Clockwork Orange". I'm definitely one of the cool kids now, thanks Ollie!

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
You were already one of the cool kids! ;-)

Not to be nasty but.....

(Anonymous) 2009-03-19 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
McCarthy's "The Road" is hopeful. Yes they go through some crazy crap (I still have nightmares about the people in the basement) and the kid's father dies; however, look at the last few pages. The mother figure you takes the kid into the group. The whole idea of human endurance even when all hell has broken loose.

Blood Meridian is not like that however :-)

And you really need to be ashamed about making a porn site into some book club. That's nasty.

James B. Wyler

Hi James,

I now want to turn all porn sites into book clubs. Any suggestions of where I should go next?

The bit from "The Road" that still gives me nightmares is that scene in the forest with the baby and the bonfire... ugh! I'm looking forward to "Blood Meridian" though - your comment reminded me that I must check my local library and see if they have a copy.

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone from your blog thinks of the book - and hopefully this is just the beginning of many cool book discussions.

The baby scene is horrific isn't it. Hold on to your seats though because there are scenes just as terrible in BM.

It will be interesting to see what people think. Do you think folk will actually read it? Have you been able to listen to the Yale professor. She says some interesting stuff.

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
I think some folk will read it, and some folk will comment on it because they've read it already. I'm getting my copy this weekend! :-)

I haven't had a chance yet to listen to the professor - was maybe thinking of doing so after I'd read the book so as not to colour my opinion of it.

You and I will have to kick some butt over at your blog if those guys refuse to read the book...

I love the idea of kicking ass for not reading!

Good idea about the prof. She's good though. Handles the book well.

I have a slight advantage because I read the thing like 4 times (used to teach in my previous life). Even got lucky and got a great first edition of the book in New Orleans.

Let me know how the reading is going. No worries. No daily quizzes! LOL

Ok, will keep you updated. ;-)

That's cool you were a teacher - same here. Wasn't my thing in the end, but I have good memories of it.

Take care and have a good weekend!
