Loose Ends

If you have a short story kicking around that's less than 600 words long, and you are a resident in a Commonwealth country, consider submitting your story to the Commonwealth Short Story competition. The deadline is tomorrow and there are no theme restrictions on the submissions. Prize is cash!

I was supposed to go to an allotment in Walthamstow today with some co-workers but everyone has pulled out. We were going to plant, pull weeds and get sunburnt. Kevin is spending most of the day with his drawing group in Stoke Newington. I'll probably go to the gym in the afternoon and then download brasilian soap operas. At night, I'll watch Suspiria or The Innocents, thanks to Sofa Cinema (our version of Netflix). I have stories from various friends to read over and edit. I have The Heart is a Lonely Hunter nearly finished. I have my plants on the balcony in need of attention. I have this tentative sun over London and Victoria Park at my feet. I have darkly delightful "Goth: Advanced Course", a mix CD given to me by [livejournal.com profile] naturalbornkaos yesterday at a picnic he organised at Regent's Park. I have the new Star Trek tomorrow night with [livejournal.com profile] sushidog.

I went dancing Friday night with [livejournal.com profile] teqkiller and her friend Yasmin. We were checking out a monthly night at The Purple Turtle called "Electric Dreams", hoping it would turn out to be the best 80s showdown in town. Some weirdness introduced itself in the shape of an insane-looking bouncer who had his eyes on Yasmin, then conversations on friends that passed away recently which took some of the cheer away from the girls. The club itself was half-full with cast offs from "Vagabonds" (that monthly goth night I've been a few times). Some very obvious 80s choices mixed in with dancey goth stuff played on a below freezing temperatures dancefloor. Why is it so hard for DJs to choose Cindy Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun?"

I am reading your '80's night adventures' with great interest, soon as one passes your criteria I am so there!
Sorry I missed you yesterday, I have the flu and it is plainly rude to share I think you would agree :)

I think the club has potential but, as Suzi said, we'd have had more fun in a big group. Next time we organise an outing I'll drop you a line!

I arrived late yesterday so missed most of the picnic. I think Rattler was sufficiently happy with the turn out to organise other ones this summer - I'm sure I'll see you soon!

Today I made up a song on a little zither I found at the local thrift shop, and as I was playing it I thought, "This sounds like something out of Suspiria....!"

:)

I ended up watching "The Innocents" last night (which was brilliant) so I still have "Suspiria" to look forward to sometime this week. :-)
