Morrissey is for life, not just for Christmas. I liken being a Moz fan to finding yourself in an intense relationship with someone you totally fancy and adore, but who is just a teeny bit embarrassing when you take them down the pub to meet your mates. You don't stop loving them, but every time you go out together you say a silent prayer hoping they won't do or say anything too weird.

Good article. So very true.

For me, it doesn't really matter what else he does. We'll always have "Live in Dallas" and virtually nothing beats that.

The more bland popular culture becomes, the more radical he sounds. I remember when pop stars used to have political views and speak out against the mainstream... but those days are gone.

Totally. We need a backlash. I think they should make Varg Vikernes a judge on X Factor. That'd shake things up.

Or we need an alternative to X Factor, with proper bands and interesting judges - with winners that trump Simon Cowell in the Christmas charts.

Or, we could just go back to bands making music for the love of art rather than for some kind of atrocious televised competition...

Ha, I had a conversation along exactly these lines at the weekend. I sometimes wonder how much I'd let him get away with.

Morrissey's eccentricities and many faux pas have always been part of his attraction. He's always interesting, and that what makes him stand out in comparison to many of the current crop of music icons.

It's always "oh, what's he said now?" with him. When can you ever say the same for other pop stars?
