Stupid Accident

Broken iPhone by michaelallenclark
Broken iPhone, a photo by michaelallenclark on Flickr.
I was leaving the office this evening - carrying two bags of groceries while trying to slide on my headphones - when my iPhone escaped my fingers and ran down the staircase.

"Oh fuck!" I shouted.

"Oops," said one of my co-workers, on his way to the kitchen.

The thing still works so I'm OK for now. I pay insurance to O2 - really hope they cover most of the cost of a new phone, if not the whole thing.

I woke up at 2.30am this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. Have felt knackered and irritated all day.

One of my friends did exactly the same thing recently. He'd no insurance, but it "only" cost £50 to repair it locally. If 02 are willing to do it though, so much the better...

Well, I have insurance so hopefully it will be free! I'll promise and cross my heart that I'll never ever drop it again...

There are many reasons why I refuse to buy an iphone or other expensive iphones (unethical purchase for starters), but other reason is what you described, if you break it awfully expensive to fix/replace.

I know what you mean - I had no idea of Apple's terrible record with Chinese workers until I had it... once my contract is up in a year, I think I may switch.

Oh fuck indeed! I hate seeing people's phones and cameras fall, that crunch that makes everyone nearby wince...

It's the pain in the wallet that hurts me...

i can't stop laughing at that animation!

still laughing... classic!

Aw your phone story makes me sad. Hopefully you can get it fixed.

Thanks! Hope so too...

If its just the screen, a replacement glass piece should only run you...twenty pounds? Maybe? It's about 35 USD to swap them out.

It's a drag though.

Total drag. Just hoping O2 don't screw me over - gathering courage to go visit them.

Contact Alexander, he broke his phone last year and managed to find a place that repaired it at a reasonable cost.

Good tip, thanks Steve!

Sorry to hear about your phone. I can sympathise to an extent as I dropped mine in the bath a couple of weeks ago. After a couple of days it made a miraculous recovery luckily, but I do understand that sudden "Oh fuck!" moment.

That gif is amazing though - what's it from?

[identity profile] commonpeople.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I always knew it would recover - nothing bad can happen in a bathtub!!

the gif is from the minor misanthropic classic "Welcome to the Doll House". The little girl grew up to be the woman in Hostel 2 that gets chained upside down and...

Ahhh, I did wonder if it was from that. I remember seeing it when it came out and not really liking it because it was just so bleak and mean-spirited (despite being marketed as a bit of a quirky comedy!)... Maybe I'd like it more now?

Didn't make the Hostel II connection! (I try to avoid thinking about Hostel II where possible!) That's interesting. It's often strange how people's careers pan out.

I don't know why I know about Hostel II... I haven't even seen it! Did you see the trailer for Hostel III? Ugh!
